If it wasn't so bright in that pic it'd be nicer. I googled the tartan and seen it as a real material. A school nearby me has that as their uniform.

My ancestors fled scotland 500 years ago as mercenaries to fight for Red Hugh O Neill's army against the English, my dad has traced our family back a good bit. They settled around Munster after Hugh O Neill's army were in retreat rather than follow him all the way to the North again.
