The Music Banter Information Desk

http://www.rennesairport.com/Images/...ation-Desk.jpg
Although this isn't strictly speaking a music thread, I'm going to ask that it be left here. The idea behind this is that any new members or those who have recently joined, who have questions about the site can ask them here, and I'll do my best to answer them. It would be great if it could be stickied, as I think it might make a valuable resource for newbies who might be reluctant to ask questions, not knowing who to ask.

I'm also aware Batty and Frown will come in and **** all over my nice new clean desk, but such is life. I'll give it a go anyway.

So, if you're new and have questions, this is the place to ask them.

We have an entire welcome forum for this crap

Where should I post sarcastic put-downs and bad puns?

Akai 01-21-2018 07:13 PM

I was gonna mention how I think this is a nice idea and then the MB hive-mind kicked in prompting me to mock it.

Still tho, nice idea.

Yes we have. I made the thread, and very hard I worked on it. However most people a) don't know where to go to find it and b) when they do find it, have to page through a LOT of information (see above as to who wrote it) to try to find what they want. So I thought somewhere that they could actually ask their questions and get a quick answer would be nice.

Since this thread apparently exists now, I guess it should contain a link to the following thread, which certainly contains a lot of useful information for newbs:
http://www.musicbanter.com/introduct...sicbanter.html

MicShazam 01-22-2018 12:37 AM

^It would be good if newbies could find that one more easily, since many new members break several rules from that thread right away.

It wouldn't matter. Most noobs probably won't look at the rules before they break them anyway. It was a problem at my old forum too. People just come on to promote something most of the time or to ask a question. Only a few will stick around no matter what you do.

And this thread will likely die a slow death too (though there is always the Batty/Frownland factor )

I know it sounds like bad grammar but it's an Irish thing: "She made that dinner and very good it was too" or "I went to see that movie and very good it was too." So you can hold your sniggers.

Yeah I know. But we'll see. Damnit, it's a curse being this nice.

You don't. Read the rules. You're not allowed breathe until you've either a) made 15 posts b) started a thread that gets more than 1000 views in a week or c) snogged the Batlord. Sorry: I don't make the rules.

hi! i m new here!
can i still use this as a newbie-question topic? ill give it try.

1. i m having a conversation about tom waits and i want to link to mixcloud content which i made (for fun and having you know like 10 listeners half of them friends-no money involved whatsoever) even so it seems i cant link to that at least for some period of time. true?

1.5 question: can i give keywords so someone can google it and listen to the mixtape or even that is prohibited?

2. can i put in my home page url whatever i like? [i dont sell stuff or something :P]

3. i generaly like to use mixcloud. can i give links that will lead somewhere else?
anywhere? i mean theres soul cool records with thousands of listeners and theres some dude with 10 listeners like me. so maybe he is me but i want to hide it and pretend hes someone else so they dont erase my comments or ban me or whatever. what goes?

4. if i write ** like this i can curse all i want? i i dont have no intention of doing so,** or not. just wandering.

5. can i start a new thread just like that for whatever music-related topic i want? i mean in some...rational limits.

thanks for doing this, i found some rules and glanced at them, then lost them, searched for them a bit, didnt find them, you know how it is. and i know little to nothing about forums....

Yes & yes!

Swear all you want and feel free to start threads as long as it doesn't turn into crazy thread spamming.

1-1.5: We ask that newbies don't post links in general until they've been here for 3mos and have established themselves as a member. If you wanted to PM me the mixcloud link I would be happy to post it for you as it pertains to the discussion. If you want to link to personal social media accounts that's fine.

2-3: After 3mos. Self-promotion is typically not allowed but after you've established yourself as a member we might let it slide.

4: Fuck yeah you can curse.

5: Yes, feel free to start a journal or new thread. Just so you know, all journal posts require approval. There is more information about that in the Member Journals subforum.

Thanks for asking good questions. Hope you stick around.
