Guten Tag!

I am doing my best to do as much learning as possible in my free time. I hope to utilize this site in that capacity!

GD 06-26-2018 11:19 AM

You play bassoon? I like bassoons.

Welcome to the site

BassoonPlatoon 06-26-2018 11:26 AM

Yeah bassoons are cool. I like double reeds.

grindy 06-26-2018 11:30 AM

Welcome and guten Abend.
Don't be so brief.
What are you into? What would you like to know more about?

And yeah, bassoons rule.

The Batlord 06-26-2018 11:51 AM

That reminds me, I need to go fishing and catch some bass soon.

grindy 06-26-2018 11:54 AM

Fun fact: A "Bassoon" is called "Fagott" in German.

You're right, that was a fun fact.:)

The Batlord 06-26-2018 04:24 PM

I do love cruising for fagotts.

You're it!

The Batlord 06-26-2018 04:46 PM

For the life of me I can't figure out why they stopped posting.

Frownland 06-26-2018 04:47 PM

He's busy at the Battle of Reeds.

Don't be so brief. Forgive me. I have a habit of only saying what is required of me.
What are you into? What would you like to know more about? These questions are a bit broad for my liking, but I will try to give you what I hope you are looking for. I enjoy watching a lot of tv, comics, learning, reading, and intelligent conversation. I joined this forum because I wish for it to help me learn more about playing instruments (Think of it sort of like a music history/music appreciation class if it helps).

And yeah, bassoons rule.

Good lord this thread blew up in popularity out of nowhere.

fyi: posting in yellow may cause snow blindness.

The best way to answer a post where you is to copy/paste the
in front of each question you want to answer, or each point you want to address.
then close out with
Then you don't have to worry to use different colors to seperate who said what cause what they said would be in quotations.

This is for example what it would look like:

Now that he's it he has to give us ten seconds to run and hide but he must stare at us the whole time we're running.

Right. Just remember posting in Gelb ist hart für die Augen.

I was only trying to show you a more efficient way of conducting a conversation.

It was actually Abend in my German timezone.

And "What are you into?" is a question about musical tastes here.
To be honest I wouldn't say that MB is a good resource for learning about music theory, but it's good for bants and finding new artists.

Lisnaholic 06-27-2018 05:31 AM

Welcome to MB, BassoonPlatoon :wavey:

We would be interested to know a little about the kind of music you like. I hope you stay here, if only to keep poor grindy company: I think we only have about three guys from continental Europe.

MicShazam 06-27-2018 05:50 AM

A long time ago I assumed Norg and Mord to be from Scandinavia. Norg because I thought it was a reference to Norge (Norway in their own language) and Mord because "mord" literally means "murder" in Danish.

Lisnaholic 06-27-2018 05:56 AM

Is Norg the same as Isjorn ? I assumed they, or he, was from Scandanavia. Then there's you, grindy and Lilja and that's about it I think.

MicShazam 06-27-2018 05:57 AM

Forgot about Isbjørn. That's Danish, Norwegian and possibly also Swedish for "polar bear". Sounds like a Scandinavian allright.

Where's Lilja from?

I'm pretty sure "bants" is entirely local slang.

Isbjorn (**** that call him "Briks") is from Norway, and yes it means polar bear. I know because it was a whole thing. Seriously **** "Isbjorn". Damn fool was too dim to realize the genius of "Norway Jose".

Lilja is Swedish, tho with fear of being pedantic, Scandinavia (that's Scandinavia proper, sry Denmark lol) isn't usually counted as part of "continental Europe", is it? I'm also Norwegian btw, so that would count one more towards European members, continental or not.

Denmark is absolutely part of Scandinavia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scandinavia
There are sometimes arguments about whether Finland should be considered a part of Scandinavia, but Denmark is not up for debate.

But yeah, Sweden and Norway don't fall under Continental Europe.

Culturally yes, geographically; no way. This is from the wiki article you linked:

in English usage, it also sometimes refers to the Scandinavian Peninsula

You didn't say the Scandinavian Peninsula, so I didn't know that's what you meant.

well, like I said, that post might've come off as pedantic, and it wouldn't have made sense anyway if I included Denmark in that, since there's no way around you guys being part of 'continental Europe' innit?

^ Well that's a surprise, Gigantic D ! I had no idea!

Shifting focus to Europe south of The Alps, ( or for the pedantic, south of an extended line drawn through The ), we left out Zarbaqal from Spain, but I think he's he's the only guy from Southern Europe. I wonder why.

Cuthbert 06-27-2018 04:38 PM

I would have said it is Continental Europe.

Norway and Denmark are connected to the mainland.

Yeah, I don't mention very often in forum posts (simply because I have no particular reason to (not that I post a lot in general tbh)) so it makes sense that a lot of people wouldn't know.

Well if you wanna be technical - yes, it's continental, but most of the time, if you live in Scandinavia you would have to cross a stretch of sea to get to "the continent", so we might as well be off on some island like Iceland or the brits, leading us to fall outside that classification.
