I Cannot ****ing Wait Until Morrissey Dies

Hey, I'm a 20-year-old computer science student on the east coast of the US.

My favorite album is Spiderland, and I listen to post-hardcore (especially skramz), folk (specifically avant, contemporary, indie, and regional), black metal, indie, some pop, some noise/industrial/drone, and smatterings of other stuff. I keep a journal of everything I listen to on my RateYourMusic account. Since I can't embed links I'll just give you my username: ~appellation1.

I don't have any other hobbies, please help me Dr. Phil you're my only hope

[MERIT] 09-27-2018 11:51 PM

Now THAT'S how you title your introduction. Take notes, wankers!

Lucem Ferre 09-27-2018 11:57 PM

No Hay Banda 09-28-2018 12:19 AM

Thanks, lol. What kinda music do you guys generally like here?

Already made a couple posts in the black metal, metalcore, screamo, and gothic country threads, this place seems pretty cool.

WWWP 09-28-2018 12:23 AM

Lol

Welcome. Spiderland is >>>>

You'll find a little bit of everything here homie.

PRO TIP: Don't buy music from anyone here that has a BandCamp page. It's a trap.

Yeah, I've seen enough pizza guy porn to know I have... other means...

Lucem Ferre 09-28-2018 12:46 AM

The cool people are on the streaming platforms anyways.

Unitron 09-28-2018 01:06 AM

Welcome, another east coaster here. Nice thread title btw, that's how you make yourself stand out. I just had a boring "hey".

[MERIT] 09-28-2018 01:47 AM

So, tell us what's new in computer science OP.

grindy 09-28-2018 01:49 AM

Welcome to MB! You have good taste! (Well, apart from Indie. Ugh.)
Looking forward to seeing you around.

I haven't been following computer science proper lately, but someone claimed to have solved the Riemann hypothesis in math which has implications about the distribution of primes, and primes are useful in cryptography and cybersecurity; it would probably be the biggest discovery in mathematical history if it proved to be correct. Pretty cool stuff.

Indie was kinda my introduction to lots of music and much of it still holds up, though it makes up less of my consumption now than it did then. Thanks for the welcome!

Yes. Frown and Mondo are wannabe Soundcloud rappers.

The Batlord 09-28-2018 08:26 AM

They have Bandcamps though.

Welcome! Looks like you have good taste. What are some other artists that you like apart from Slint? I met Peggy after one of his shows once btw, he's a lot less confrontational when he's not performing. (btw Merit is right, you can DL my music for free. No need to buy.)

Some non-harsh artists I like: Belle and Sebastian, Nick Drake, The Mountain Goats, Sparklehorse, Big Blood & the Bleedin' Hearts, Jon Fahey, Pygmylush, Natural Snow Buildings, PJ Harvey, Joni Mitchell, Mazzy Star.

And some harsher/noisier stuff: Gorguts, pg.99, Lingua Ignota, Refused, Prurient, City of Caterpillar, Glenn Branca, Les Rallizes Denudes, Poison the Well, Unwound, Murmuüre, Dissection.

I've found it best to parse it out like that, because when they're all jumbled together it doesn't seem to make as much sense, lol.

I love your title to death. I like your selection of post-hardcore bands. You like NoMeansNo?

Soundcloud rapper is my dream, but unfortunately for now I'll just have settle for the international acclaim and multiple record labels and unanimous praise as one of the most distinct and original artists of the modern era.

Yeah! I was listening to them today, actually; I've yet to check out anything besides Wrong, though.

Mondo Bungle 09-28-2018 03:32 PM

I like them best though

Some durn good **** but it's nice to see another Poison the Well fan. TBH I don't much care about most of their discography but The Opposite of December gets a lot of play.

You Come Before You comes close, in my opinion, but I still prefer Opposite of December. You should check out Cleric - Retrocausal if you haven't already! It's mathcore + brutal prog.

Wrong's their most developed work. Sex Mad is nearly on par with it though and Small Parts Isolated and Destroyed is too, albeit to a lesser extent.

On a side note: if you like NMN you might like Saccharine Trust too.

Thank you, I'll check them out! Haven't heard of Saccharine Trust but they look pretty damn good.
