Right on. Kinda figured that you were talking more along the lines of more "traditional" (that word doesn't feel right but you get what I mean) post-industrial than the stuff that's closer aligned to UK bass. You May still enjoy the ambient end of it a la Chino Amobe.

I really try to get something out of all forms of music but I bend towards experimental music. Big fan of modern classical, hip-hop (mostly abstract stuff but trap bangers rule too), free improvisation, death/black/avant-garde metal, drone, avant-pop, experimental rock, post punk, American Primitivism, indigenous folk music, deconstructed club, flamenco nuevo, drone, and more. Mount Rushmore for me would probably be Captain Beefheart, Coltrane, John Cage, and This Heat (band= 1 face btw). These are all the records that I liked from 2018.

Trip hop specifically? I'd say Massive Attack, Red Snapper, Ulver (specifically Perdition City), UNKLE, Lovage and Halou all come to mind. Also DJ Shadow if you want to learn about the genre's origins.

I'm definitely more of a nu jazz guy overall, a lot of which is jazzy downtempo so I'd also recommend checking out Troublemakers, Skalpel and Xploding Plastix (prob one of my favorite groups ever) if you're interested in something like that.

Mezzanine's the tits. It's right under Portishead's self titled album when it comes to the objectively best trip-hop releases imo. If we're talking strictly favorites, Red Snapper's We Aim to Satisfy is a real piece of work.

As for early Ulver, I'm not really a black metal dude but I definitely appreciate that stage of their career. They're really talented and have proven to pull of a gamut of different genres well.
