Tim Maia is a legend, he was the precursor of funk and soul music in Brazil, he literally brought it from the US after he spent a year as a teenage immigrant there. And the last is super dope also, sounds a lot like Sango, a DJ from Seattle who mix hip hop and carioca funk! I'll be following your other recommendations in here, thank you!

Yes, of course when it comes to Tim Maia!

If you're a fan of John Zorn-style noisiness
you might have heard of Chinese Cookie Poets from Rio.
Not necessarily "trad-Brazil," but part of the noisy jazz scene there.

Felipe Zenícola - baixo
Renato Godoy - bateria e percussão
Marcos Campello - guitarra, baixo e sopros

Some "maximalismo sombrio" :D

Also, Thiago Nassif's album, Três -
produced by Arto Lindsay -
made it to my top 2018 albums.

OK, let's hang out next Saturday, right? lol, jks apart, maaan your knowledge on Brazilian stuff is truly impressive!! Are you actually from Rio, cause I assume very specific people (from Rio) would know those bands. I'm starting to wonder if it's time to open a new thread for Brazilian obscure musics, I loved Chinese Cookie Poet, I could hear a cuíca and a tempo of african-brazilian rythms blended in all the noisy jazz. And Tantão e Os Fita... speechless, dope as f*ck! Thiago Nassif is the only one I already listened to, and also a great production! Man I hope there is more where all that came from haha.

Please do. I'd love to learn!
