ziggywas 01-12-2019 03:45 AM

micshazam and windsock i feel so welcome now.

well i guess that i think you were supposed to ask me things afterwards [that is in case you actually want new people in here and arent content just to hang out with others you already know] anyway i ll ask some questions myself. i began writing and more questions kept popping so i ll number them.

so what about music?

1. been to any good concerts lately?
2. do your ears sometimes hurt nowadays? [mine are beginning to do]
have you considered using earplugs?
3. what are your 3 favorite 2018 albums? what record was the most dissapointing?
4. do you liked the last spiritualized album? you think he kinda repeats himself? or is this exactly the point?
5.what about the beak> album?
6. would you pay to see iggy pop live now(this summer actually) in his 70's? do you think its true he wont make another album?
7. why you think hiphop dominates nowadays? do you think it dominates? has it gotten better? [i think not] has it more to do with clothes and lifestyle in general than with music? [youknow teenagers wearing hoodies and all that]
8. whats your favorite tom waits album?
9. do you consider reggae to be a fully legit kind of music, or kinda 'inferior'? [if the answer is inferior may you burn in hell.
10. how do you listen to music? i mean spotify, mp3+winamp in a computer [its what i mostly do] or you play records or just youtube all day long or what?
11. do you listen to the actual radio or some kind of internet radio or podcast or whatever?
12. name 3 musical sites you like to visit.
13. do you spend some money in music-related stuff? how? how many?
14. does your profession or studies or something that has to do with your 'main occupation' lets call it has to do something with music?
15. do you actively play an instrument? in a band or orchestra or in a quartet or smth?
16. do you like beeing asked questions? about almost any subject? why? do es it make you feel important?
17. you sometimes sing when you take a bath? when you dont?
18. do you read actual muzic magazines or fanzines sometimes?
19. will it kinda bother you if i dont put a question number 20 and leave it at 19? are you 100% sure?

please dont start answering as micshazam and windshock did above, although i guess that that would be impossible and also that currently i am adding fuel to the fire :)

also excuse my english, i am proud to say i am a 100% self taught english-speaker but of course the whole outcome is far from perfect.

seeya!

Latest was February last year, where I saw Kishi Bashi at a hole-in-the-wall venue in Tokyo. Yes, it was a glorihole.

2. do your ears sometimes hurt nowadays? [mine are beginning to do]
have you considered using earplugs?

Not really. I never blast music, though, because I want to enjoy my music all my life.

3. what are your 3 favorite 2018 albums? what record was the most disappointing?

공중도둑 [Mid-Air Thief] - 무너지기 (Crumbling), All Traps on Earth - A Drop of Light, and Koenji Hyakkei - Dhorimviskha. Disappointing? That Father John Misty garbage.

4. do you liked the last spiritualized album? you think he kinda repeats himself? or is this exactly the point?

Nah. I'm past that band now.

5.what about the beak> album?

Who?

6. would you pay to see iggy pop live now(this summer actually) in his 70's? do you think its true he wont make another album?

Nope. Yep.

7. why you think hiphop dominates nowadays? do you think it dominates? has it gotten better? [i think not] has it more to do with clothes and lifestyle in general than with music? [youknow teenagers wearing hoodies and all that]

Cuckoldry.

8. whats your favorite tom waits album?

...fuck. Good question. Honestly can't answer that.

9. do you consider reggae to be a fully legit kind of music, or kinda 'inferior'?

Sure. I guess.

10. how do you listen to music? i mean spotify, mp3+winamp in a computer [its what i mostly do] or you play records or just youtube all day long or what?

I don't stream. I have to have it in digital or physical format or I don't listen to it.

11. do you listen to the actual radio or some kind of internet radio or podcast or whatever?

No.

12. name 3 musical sites you like to visit.

musicbanter, rym, r/letstalkmusic

13. do you spend some money in music-related stuff? how? how many?

I buy vinyl. I spend only Christmas money on them.

14. does your profession or studies or something that has to do with your 'main occupation' lets call it has to do something with music?

Yeah. I get to teach a course on the history of rock & roll.

15. do you actively play an instrument? in a band or orchestra or in a quartet or smth?

Acoustic guitar, and I suck at it.

16. do you like being asked questions? about almost any subject? why? do es it make you feel important?

I'm a full-blown self-actualized narcissist.

17. you sometimes sing when you take a bath? when you dont?

Never when bathing, often when not.

18. do you read actual music magazines or fanzines sometimes?

lol no

19. will it kinda bother you if i dont put a question number 20 and leave it at 19? are you 100% sure?

19 is a good number.

ziggywas 01-12-2019 05:56 AM

Zhanteimi

thanks for the answers.
i really envy you cause you get to teach rock n roll history.
and how come? is this part of scool? or university course or what?

you in tokyo? wow. distant. i dont know much about japanese music, classic or modern except: i went to see mono live a couple months ago. so-so. i heard last years kikagaku moyo record-boring, acid mothers temple-hell yeah! i really like em. and the day before yesterday i heard a band called 水玉消防団 [i m copying-pasting of course-i hope its the right thing i copied) the album translates to "Red Petals Full In The Sky"
i m not sure what i thought of it. for sure i ll hear it again a couple times.

i also think you should give spiritualized a 2nd chance.

I was just joking. A lot of new posters just leave one comment and disappear, so I don't take it too seriously.

I'm gonna give you some real answers. Just gonna pick some of the questions.

2. do your ears sometimes hurt nowadays? [mine are beginning to do]
have you considered using earplugs?

No, but I've learned my lesson already as I have tinnitus. Use plugs. Don't even consider not using plugs if you're going to loud shows.

3. what are your 3 favorite 2018 albums? what record was the most disappointing?

The new Medina album was disappointing because it does nothing new whatsoever.

I have 36 albums from last year, so it's hard to pick. Most were good.
Current favorites include:

Barbara Morgenstern - Unschuld und Verwüstung
Arkona - Khram
Hop Along - Bark Your Head Off Dog
Neko Case - Hell-On
and
Mitra Sumara - Tahdig

But I'm still working on chewing through all of that music.

4. do you liked the last spiritualized album? you think he kinda repeats himself? or is this exactly the point?

I checked it out back when everyone seemed to talk about it on the internet. Wasn't really my cup of tea. I didn't really get what was so special about it. Seemed kinda bland to me.

8. whats your favorite tom waits album?

Not a big fan, but if I had to pick one, it would be Small Change.

9. do you consider reggae to be a fully legit kind of music, or kinda 'inferior'?

Why wouldn't it be legit? It's pretty limited, but so are lots of other highly specific genres, like 12 bar blues, death metal, rockabilly or gospel.

A reggae artist I like would be Hollie Cook.

10. how do you listen to music? i mean spotify, mp3+winamp in a computer [its what i mostly do] or you play records or just youtube all day long or what?

CDs on my stereo, Spotify, youtube and ripped .mp3 files on my computer.
Planning on buying a record player some day.

11. do you listen to the actual radio or some kind of internet radio or podcast or whatever?

I don't like radio. But I do sometimes listen to podcasts, but not actually music podcasts. Just interviews and such.

12. name 3 musical sites you like to visit.

Allmusic's new albums and editor's choice sections.
A random mish mash of other sites I swing by on occasion, but I don't have any favorites outside of Allmusic.

13. do you spend some money in music-related stuff? how? how many?

Lots and lots of CDs... I get many of them cheap, but it costs me some money for sure.

18. do you read actual music magazines or fanzines sometimes?

A couple times a year, I borrow some issues of Froots magazine at the library to catch up with some folk artists I wouldn't have found otherwise.

ziggywas 01-12-2019 07:16 AM

"I was just joking. A lot of new posters just leave one comment and disappear, so I don't take it too seriously." ok!

36 albums!!!!
i kept some notes last year and i ve heard around 50 albums total. and lets say for another 50 i have a pretty good idea about.. and many of them i heard by the end of the year when reading various year-end-lists and at some point deciding to make a 2018-songs mixtape...
36 favorites for one year is too much for me! maybe the decade :)

about reggae its an impression i get when talking to people about reggae, they sometimes treat it like its...i dunno, inferior.

"Lots and lots of CDs" im kinda happy about that answer. seems that nobody cares about cds nowadays :)

do you liked old spiritualized records? spacemen3 ?

havent heard the albums you mentioned but i m thinking i ll give neko case a try.. or maybe should i start elsewhere (i never heard a neko case album)

hey you re from denmark!(?) for some reason i anticipated that almost everyone in here would be americans but this far i have 0/2

Yeah, I'm from Denmark. Most current members are actually Americans though.

I haven't actually heard any old Spiritualized albums, so I don't know if I would like any of the older ones better. Maybe!

As far as Neko Case goes, two albums that would be a great place to start are:

Furnace Room Lullaby
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....qyL._SS500.jpg

Blacklisted
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....17k--oWLlL.jpg

I feel like they represent a lot of what her music is all about while also being a couple of her very best albums.

Lisnaholic 01-12-2019 11:17 AM

Hi, ziggywas! Welcome to MB :wavey:

I love "Walking with Jesus" and "Cop shoot cop", but sometimes I think Spiritualized are a bit lazy or are catering too much to their stoned admirers, so a lot of their later stuff sounds bland to me.

Sorry to mention it, but you're doing the whole intro thing wrong, because we're supposed to be asking the questions and then you tell us a bit about yourself. Are you some kind of rebel, to be doing things so backwards? ;)

What are your fave genres? Any music you really hate? If you had to name one band as the bestest best of all the bests, which would it be?

And congrats by the way on your English - it's really good.

Unitron 01-12-2019 11:19 AM

Welcome to MB!

Have any favorite bands?

ziggywas 01-13-2019 01:51 PM

hey lisnaholic and unitron, thanks for the welcome!
as before you came a not-so-welcoming comitee i started to ask the questions my self :) sorry didnt mean to rebel against the established order ;))

lisnaholic although i disagree with what you say about spiritualized i consider it to be a fair critique. cop shoot cop and lord are both favorites, in their top-5 in my opinion.

favorite genres and some bands:
alternative rock may it rest in peace: girls against boys, electrelane, pj harvey, mogwai,
some kinds of electronic music. i love boards of canada, couple records by b.fleischmann, burial, massive attack, dj shadow and the likes.
some kinds of hiphop music: defjux, anticon, roots manuva, RTJ, dj signify.
reggae also, the more "dubby" things, lee perry etc
jazz sometimes (bill evans!) , also jazz-hihop or jazz-electronic fusion.
well thats about it!

super-fav band?
when i was 11 the beatles!
when i was 17 the Smashing pumpkins1
when i was 23 godspeed you black emperor!
now i m 40 and i cant answer that easily :)
i love tom waits after swordfishtrombones, the beatles, Nick Cave, some Neil Young tracks are amongst my all-time favorites, godspeed! are probably the best band i ve seen perform live. i dunno i think i ll leave it ananswered!

Last but not least yes i hate a genre but you wouldnt be familiar with it, its a kind of "pop" music thats kinda popular in my country and you can't avoid. it will attack you in places you cant escape (like the bus). its in decline now so its not that bad anymore but it will be decades before we ll be safe from it :)

so how about you?
will you do my question-list or will you tell me some (other) things about yourselves?

Blarobbarg 01-13-2019 01:52 PM

Blarobbarg do answer the question list when/if you re in the mood!

Frownland 01-13-2019 02:35 PM

Good to see another Anticon fan! Also, to answer your questions

1. been to any good concerts lately?

Not lately, but I saw Merzbow and Prurient about a month ago. Super intense and fun. Hoping to catch a Stephanie Richards quintet performance of the month as well as a Peter Evans & friends show that look awesome.

2. do your ears sometimes hurt nowadays? [mine are beginning to do]
have you considered using earplugs?

Mine are definitely beginning to hurt after overexposure to loud music, plus I was already prone to wax buildup. I'm a religious member of the earplug crew.

3. what are your 3 favorite 2018 albums? what record was the most dissapointing?

Top 3:
John Coltrane - Both Directions at Once
Earl Sweatshirt - Some Rap Songs
Julia Holter - Aviary

Most disappointing was Code Girl by Mary Halvorson but I think that that's because I didn't give it a fair chance. I checked out some of Amirtha Kidambi's (the vocalist from Code Girl) stuff with the Elders and I enjoyed it quite a bit, so maybe I'll be more familiar with the language of the album than on my first couple of listens.

4. do you liked the last spiritualized album? you think he kinda repeats himself? or is this exactly the point?

I'm familiar with Spaceman 3's stuff but not too much with Spiritualized. I thought that the new album was pretty lush and atmospheric.

5.what about the beak> album?

I thought that it was slick but underwhelming in the light of L.A. Playback.

6. would you pay to see iggy pop live now(this summer actually) in his 70's? do you think its true he wont make another album?

I'd pay like 20 bucks. I don't mind if he makes another album either, wasn't a fan of his recent efforts.

7. why you think hiphop dominates nowadays? do you think it dominates? has it gotten better? [i think not] has it more to do with clothes and lifestyle in general than with music? [youknow teenagers wearing hoodies and all that]

Hip hop dominates because there are listeners who have been exposed to it for their whole lives. I think that hip hop is evolving in many positive ways, but it does seem like hip hop is moving away from lyricism which I'm a little disappointed about (but not crushed). That's not hip hop dying though, that's evolution. Plus the lyrical **** is out there in spades so who am I to bitch about it.

8. whats your favorite tom waits album?

Big Time

9. do you consider reggae to be a fully legit kind of music, or kinda 'inferior'? [if the answer is inferior may you burn in hell.

There's some passion in the roots of the genre but it's devolved into self parody.

10. how do you listen to music? i mean spotify, mp3+winamp in a computer [its what i mostly do] or you play records or just youtube all day long or what?

Mostly streaming but if I'm kicking back at home I'm more likely to throw on one of my records.

11. do you listen to the actual radio or some kind of internet radio or podcast or whatever?

I listen to 88.3 our jazz station sometimes.

12. name 3 musical sites you like to visit.

Musicbanter, Rateyourmusic, and Bandcamp.

13. do you spend some money in music-related stuff? how? how many?

I buy vinyl and instruments. How many? Too many according to my wallet.

14. does your profession or studies or something that has to do with your 'main occupation' lets call it has to do something with music?

Unfortunately not but I'd like to open a venue some day.

15. do you actively play an instrument? in a band or orchestra or in a quartet or smth?

I play several instruments. Currently jamming with a few people in a duo format but not really in any band right now.

16. do you like beeing asked questions? about almost any subject? why? do es it make you feel important?

I feel too important to be questioned.

17. you sometimes sing when you take a bath? when you dont?

Sure I sing.

18. do you read actual muzic magazines or fanzines sometimes?

Not since I was a kid reading mags for guitar tablature.

19. will it kinda bother you if i dont put a question number 20 and leave it at 19? are you 100% sure?

https://deafbox.bandcamp.com/album/deaf-cuts

Blarobbarg 01-13-2019 04:54 PM

Sure, I'll answer a few questions. And I do read quite fast. I'm an English teacher, reading is kinda my thing.

1. been to any good concerts lately?

Nope. My last "concert" was a house show put on by some friends of mine that included my buddy Matt (who is an excellent rapper) and my other friend Matt who DJs and did weird house stuff, mostly. It was super fun, but I don't have the time or money for concerts nowadays.

3. what are your 3 favorite 2018 albums? what record was the most dissapointing?

1. Tomb Mold, Manor of Infinite Forms
2. John Coltrane, Both Directions at Once
3. Brandi Carlile, By the Way, I Forgive You

The Death Grips album was a letdown. It had some bangers on it and did some interesting things, but didn't grab me. Maybe I've lost interest in them.

6. would you pay to see iggy pop live now(this summer actually) in his 70's? do you think its true he wont make another album?

I would pay to see him, his early work is some of my favorite music of all time. I don't care if he doesn't record again.

7. why you think hiphop dominates nowadays? do you think it dominates? has it gotten better? [i think not] has it more to do with clothes and lifestyle in general than with music? [youknow teenagers wearing hoodies and all that]

Hip hop dominates because hip hop is ****ing incredible as a genre and cultural movement, and it speaks the language of an oppressed people group better than anything else right now. The aesthetic of the genre, which the fashion, is an integral part of its expression, and should not be looked down upon.

8. whats your favorite tom waits album?

Diamond Dogs.

That's all I have time for.

1. been to any good concerts lately?

Haven't been to a concert in years unfortunately.

2. do your ears sometimes hurt nowadays? [mine are beginning to do]
have you considered using earplugs?

Surprisingly no after years of loud garbage played far too loud.

3. what are your 3 favorite 2018 albums? what record was the most dissapointing?

Don't keep up with current music.

4. do you liked the last spiritualized album? you think he kinda repeats himself? or is this exactly the point?

Haven't heard it. Only heard that one album you know the one.

5.what about the beak> album?

Shrug.

6. would you pay to see iggy pop live now(this summer actually) in his 70's? do you think its true he wont make another album?

No other way I'll ever get to see him so hell yeah.

7. why you think hiphop dominates nowadays? do you think it dominates? has it gotten better? [i think not] has it more to do with clothes and lifestyle in general than with music? [youknow teenagers wearing hoodies and all that]

It serves well as pop music that can appeal across gender and racial lines. Yeah I guess it dominates, definitely in influence. It was never bad but time has introduced ever greater diversity so it's at its most interesting. I guess people looking for a ready made identity might be more about the clothes but other than that nah.

8. whats your favorite tom waits album?

I like Tom Waits but don't listen to him enough to have a proper opinion of him or a favorite album.

9. do you consider reggae to be a fully legit kind of music, or kinda 'inferior'? [if the answer is inferior may you burn in hell.

Why would it be inferior? I don't much care for a lot of what I've heard but I haven't heard much so I'm not gonna **** on it beyond saying it hasn't grabbed me yet.

10. how do you listen to music? i mean spotify, mp3+winamp in a computer [its what i mostly do] or you play records or just youtube all day long or what?

I like to have a vast, ever-growing library of digital music where I don't have to worry about buffering. I'm too broke to really collect physical music on any grand scale like I do with downloading.

11. do you listen to the actual radio or some kind of internet radio or podcast or whatever?

Nah. I only use the radio for NPR on occasion or to fall asleep to Coast-to-Coast AM.

12. name 3 musical sites you like to visit.

RYM for new music, blogs in general for downloads, and Bandcamp to check newer stuff.

13. do you spend some money in music-related stuff? how? how many?

Not nearly as much as I used to. The very occasional album but I'll throw a bit of money down at Bandcamp.

14. does your profession or studies or something that has to do with your 'main occupation' lets call it has to do something with music?

lol nah

15. do you actively play an instrument? in a band or orchestra or in a quartet or smth?

Nah.

16. do you like beeing asked questions? about almost any subject? why? do es it make you feel important?

I like talking about myself, yes.

17. you sometimes sing when you take a bath? when you dont?

I love whistling and sing under my breath at work to pass the time.

18. do you read actual muzic magazines or fanzines sometimes?

Nah. Used to read Metal Hammer but there's not much to interest me there now that my tastes have become super duper hella sophisticated yo.

19. will it kinda bother you if i dont put a question number 20 and leave it at 19? are you 100% sure?

... A bit.

ziggywas 01-14-2019 02:56 AM

frown
mostly things "around" (as opposed to core members) of anticon like cLOUDEAD or beans.
about iggy, i think post pop depression was a great album for him to make at this stage of his life and i hope he ll keep it his last..
"like to open a venue some day" i really hope you succed!
"I feel too important to be questioned." :)))))))))))))))

blarrobarg
me i m a math teacher..
about hiphop, i aint no snob and i like a lot hiphop related stuff.
i just think that last lets say decade things are overrated. i dont follow things that closely but i have heard albums by the OF thing and i m not impressed (Earl sweatshirt i think is the only one i care about) or all the asap this and asap that rappers, or even kendrick, except butterfly i think that the rest of his stuff are ok albums and nothing more and that as a rapper he's pretty mediocre. or vince staples (why the fuss?) or schoolboy q or underground stuff like death grips. i dont know, cant feel it.
about the cultural thing i understand but that was always the case, so its irrelevant about the 2010's "flourishness" of hiphpp [as i perceive it]
maybe i cant fully appreciate the cultural aspect of the thing and how it works dynamically cuz i m far away from things [ i never even set foot in the us] i mean, maybe nowwadays is more important for some reasons (i can think a few) although i doubt it cuz many of the same, or other reasons existed in the 80s p.e. anyaway.

the aesthetic/fashion thing:
in my country things are like this: 20 years ago if you looked at someone's clothes you had a pretty good idea what kinda music he liked (and many other things i d say like political views but thats a long discussion....)
nowadays all the kids look cool and they prefer hiphop influenced clothes and behaviors (im oversimplifying too keep it short) but kids arent cooler than they used to be. they look cooler yeah. so what i mean is that in many cases the "endorsement "of hiphop culture is epidermic.

about t.waits you mean rain dogs i guess.

dharma and greg
i envy both of you about the hearing. mine was better i think......
"vast, ever-growing library of digital music" exactly mything!
although as time goes by i feel more and more honestly bad about the artists not getting paid.
"throw a bit of money down at Bandcamp" thats probably the solution i will give to this problem.. seems the best among those i can afford.
"sing under my breath at work to pass the time" :)

elphenor
true!

general cocnclusions
nobody seems to give a dam about tom waits. i would recommend a mixtape i ve made with waits' songs. its on mixclod but i think i read that i m not allowed to link to streaming sites, and no self-promotion or something, for some period of time, i dunno, at some point i ll go read the rules in detail.

rate your music seems to be very popular. never used it myself..

most people would go to the iggy concert. hes gonna come this summer to my country headlining a festival. the ticket is now 40 euro wich is a lot and we dont know who else is gonna play. as they announce more names price of the ticket will go up. thats the deal. i m not sure what i ll do yet.....

about the coltrane album i think its unfair to rate it as a 2018 album! on the other hand, i understand..

well.....'nough said for today!

MicShazam 01-14-2019 03:18 AM

Guilty as charged. I'm not really into Tom Waits. But that song, The Piano Has Been Drinking is awesome.

The Batlord 01-14-2019 04:01 AM

I'm sure I could love Waits if I put more effort into exploring his discog but I'm lazy.

Maybe this'll make up for my hilarious welcome post.

1. been to any good concerts lately?

Last concert I went to was back in August. The Flaming Lips at the Agora Theater in Cleveland. Kicked ass.

2. do your ears sometimes hurt nowadays? [mine are beginning to do]
have you considered using earplugs?

I've always had sensitive hearing and have always used earplugs. I forgot them at the aforementioned Lips show and had to put some rolled up paper towel in my ears instead.

3. what are your 3 favorite 2018 albums? what record was the most dissapointing?

Not sure what my top three are. Mid-Air Thief's Crumbling is at my number one spot for sure. As for "disappointing" i.e. something I was expecting to be good but turned out to be bad...I suppose Shining's album from last year was disappointing as in I expected it to not be Earth-rendingly ****ty.

4. do you liked the last spiritualized album? you think he kinda repeats himself? or is this exactly the point?

I enjoyed it yeah. It's no Ladies & Gentlemen but it was still good. He has a successful formula and sticks with it. Pierce is reaching the end of his career and I think AEH symbolizes that.

5.what about the beak> album?

Liked it.

6. would you pay to see iggy pop live now(this summer actually) in his 70's?
do you think its true he wont make another album?

No and probably.

7. why you think hiphop dominates nowadays? do you think it dominates? has it gotten better? [i think not] has it more to do with clothes and lifestyle in general than with music? [youknow teenagers wearing hoodies and all that]

(1) Because hip-hop and R&B have always been attractive to the general populous and especially the youth of America. Probably because of some convoluted cultural meaning it provides to them. (2) I most certainly dominates too, it recently passed rock (I think last year?). (3) It's always been fairly good but more avenues for experimentation have been opened in the past decade and thus a lot of good **** has spawned. (4) It seems you don't really understand the appeal of hip-hop so trust me when I say it's not just a fashion statement.

8. whats your favorite tom waits album?

Never liked him.

9. do you consider reggae to be a fully legit kind of music, or kinda 'inferior'? [if the answer is inferior may you burn in hell.

I suppose it's as "fully legit" as a genre can get, whatever that entails.

10. how do you listen to music? i mean spotify, mp3+winamp in a computer [its what i mostly do] or you play records or just youtube all day long or what?

Burned CDs onto my phone. A lot of the obscure stuff I really like is on YouTube though, yes.

11. do you listen to the actual radio or some kind of internet radio or podcast or whatever?

I (reluctantly) listen to the radio when I'm in the car and my phone's dead, and I have yet to find a good music-centric podcast that entertains me.

12. name 3 musical sites you like to visit.

Discogs, RateYourMusic, and this hunk of junk.

13. do you spend some money in music-related stuff? how? how many?

(1) Yes. (2) USD. (3) Depends.

14. does your profession or studies or something that has to do with your 'main occupation' lets call it has to do something with music?

I don't currently have an occupation but currently I'm a journalism major with a minor in audio design & production. The latter has something to do with it, but the former is mainly so I can vie for an editorial position in (hopefully) a music-centric journal.

15. do you actively play an instrument? in a band or orchestra or in a quartet or smth?

I play drums on-and-off.

16. do you like beeing asked questions? about almost any subject? why? do es it make you feel important?

(1) If they're good questions. (2) If they're good questions. (3) Keeping everything locked inside is boring. (4) Not when it's being asked of the whole site, no.

17. you sometimes sing when you take a bath? when you dont?

(1) In the shower, not the bath. Bath's too quiet. (2) I devote my entire attention to cleaning myself.

18. do you read actual muzic magazines or fanzines sometimes?

I don't. If there's a good webzine out there I'd go for it but I'm not subscribing to a magazine any time soon.

19. will it kinda bother you if i dont put a question number 20 and leave it at 19? are you 100% sure?

(1) No. (2) Yes.

i d like to recommend an introduction-to-tom-waits-tape i ve made which i think is pretty good, but i gotta review the rules of the site about links to streaming sites etc cuz from a quick glance they seemed pretty harsch.

Tom Waits is king.

I was in line behind him at the butcher's recently. He bought 4lbs of ground turkey.

Nah man it's fine. I'm just messing with you. And yeah the Lips show was amazing. Coyne and co. just ooze fun and excitement. They're one of those bands that, regardless of what you think about their music, know how to put on a blast of a show. Confetti, light shows, the whole nine yards. Probably would have been great on psychotropics but alas I did not take any.

BTW Mid-Air Thief is a Korean indietronica artist who is somewhat similar to Grizzly Bear or even Fishmans. If that sounds like something you're interested in I say give it a try because it rocked my socks off.

Same about ICP. Say what you want about them but they put everything into their shows and 100 gallons of Faygo spraying out over the crowd is the greatest artist/audience connection gimmick I've ever seen. I challenge anyone who doesn't like them to see them in concert and not be excited.

I'm thinking maybe Neko Case won't be your kind of thing then, but her debut album (The Virginian) and her newest album (Hell-On) both show her from different sides compared to the album you listened to. So maybe worth checking out, maybe not. I'm personally really into her music, but different strokes, etc...

The Batlord 01-17-2019 12:33 PM

TFW Mic recs The Virginian.
