That's a pretty good statement.
On the last line, I not only agree with you but I also have some objections on using "indie rock" to classify a music genre. I usually say, to me, indie is just a condition of a band without label or signed to an independent label, it may be even a heavy metal, a reggae or a boy band act.

But I wouldn't figure I would meet someone who's a big fan of Pollard. He's one of the greatest artists to me, and when I say that I'm comparing him to the major stars like Jagger or McCartney and all.

I also read something once about some cities declaring a "Guided by Voices day" or something like that. I can't remember exactly what it was.

As a musician (if you are one) or a human being?
It took me some time til I got into Pussy Galore and other guitar/garage/noisy stuff.

I’m not a musician. As a human being.

^ Yes, it surprised me too, elphenor, but I really like bands like Can, Faust, T Gristle and Cab Voltaire, mainly when I'm driving around town under pressure, which happens several times every day.

Talking about metal and punk rock, I prefer the old fashioned stuff.
