Welcome. I'm here to give you more random 60s ****.

Trying not to start a new '60s' thread when there's already one that will do.....

Was reminiscing earlier today and BOOM this song just jumped right out at me. Learned song and lyrics (our version anyway) on a playground when I was 9 or 10 years old. It was SO much fun back then.

Iko Iko!
(this one by The Dixie Cups)

Lyrics were originally a mix of Creole, Choctaw Indian-American, maybe some sort of Caribe and African, and of course Creole is a lot of French. So 4 different languages (at least) became scrambled to make this song.
'Jock A Mo" was the original title by Sugar Boy Crawford so that's what I used instead of other variations. (I mean really, 'Jocomo' doesn't even look right.) All the rest is my own phonetic version.

Now come on you know you wanna sing along.

My grandma and your grandma
Were sittin' by the fire
My grandma told your grandma
I'm gonna set your flag on fire

Talkin' 'bout Hey now (hey now)
Hey now (hey now)
Iko Iko an day (mm mm mm)
Jock A Mo fee no ai na nay
Jock A Mo fee na nay

Look-a my king
All dressed in red
Iko Iko an day
I betcha five dollars
He'll kill you dead
Jock A Mo fee na nay

Talkin' 'bout Hey now (hey now)
Hey now (hey now)
Iko Iko an day (oh oh oh)
Jock A Mo fee no ai na nay
Jock A Mo fee na nay

My flag boy and your flag boy
Sittin' by the fire
My flag boy told your flag boy
I'm gonna set your flag on fire

Talkin' 'bout Hey now (hey now)
Hey now (hey now)
Iko Iko an day (mm mm mm)
Jock A Mo fee no ai na nay
Jock A Mo fee na nay

(Yes!)
See that guy all dressed in green
Iko Iko an day
He not a man
He's a lovin' machine
Jock A Mo fee na nay

Talkin' 'bout Hey now (hey now)
Hey now (hey now)
Iko Iko an day (oh oh oh)
Jock A Mo fee no ai na nay
Jock A Mo fee na nay

Talkin' 'bout Hey now
Hey now (hey now)
Iko Iko an day (oh oh oh)
Jock A Mo fee no ai na nay
Jock A Mo fee na nay
Jock A Mo fee na nay
(I say he's dressed in green!)
Jock A Mo fee na nay
(Iko!)
Jock A Mo fee na nay

One more lil note about 'Iko Iko' - it was supposedly written as a war song. Maybe that gives one or two of the lyric lines (like 'set your flag on fire') a little more meaning.

THIS is the song that I was originally gonna post in a 60s thread when I found one. Dixie Cups again. Love the brass in this 60-year-old song.

Although I was born after the 60s, I do share an appreciation of that particular era of music.

When I was growing up my uncle would play The Rolling Stones, The Monkees, Ben-E-King and The man himself Mr Elvis Presley.

Such wonderful artists
