Have you ever listened how the same Monks "Criss Cross" played two great pianists - Kenny Kirkland - 1991 and EST - in "Plays Monk". It is so good!

Yes ! Monk is particularly unique for his harmonic style and the way he approached keyboard. I remember when I first heard him ( I was a teenager ) I thought he was playing wrong ! A few years later, I wrote a little piece in Monk's style called "Monky monk" for piano solo. Great artist !

I only heard this album relatively recently. Not only is it possibly my favorite Monk document - it's one of my favorite jazz albums; can't get enough.

I recently purchased "Brilliant Corners" as a introduction to Monk. Hopefully I will be able to get my hands on more and more of his albums.
