I admire his 'breaking of boundaries' when listening to most of his songs; pure dissonance is what I needed and what I got.

He would disagree with you as would I. He would not call what he plays dissonant. He viewed his chord voicings as harmonious they just take a while to get used to.

Monk was born around 20 miles north of where I live now. Also John Coltrane was born around 20 miles south of where I was born. North Carolina is a great state for Jazz.
