I haven't heard anything about this alternate take. I know he has alternate takes of a bunch of his songs, is that what you're talking about?

And ya, I ltd be great if you had an original. I have no idea what that would be worth. A LOT. Is it really heavy, More so than more modern records? Really old records are noticeably heavier than newer ones, and by newer I mean even originals from the sixties.

^^The Complete Recordings has all the original "singles" plus alternate takes

I think I see where the confusion is here. I thought you meant an original pressing of the 1990 boxset I got, while you obviously mean just one of his originally released 78s, right? For some reason I didn't catch that.

And what I meant was that outside of the currently released 41 recordings that another one had been unearthed at some point. But I know nothing and maybe that was just hear-say.

I starting listening to Rory Block (she was mentioned a good number of pages back for her Robert Johnson covers). She seems very great to me so far.

I was introduced to him a few years back by a friend. Have collected The Complete Recordings since then.

Awesome guitar work... though the lyrics/theme are a tad too dark for my liking.

He sold his soul to the devil, what do you expect?

He mentions beating his woman a few times

blastingas10 08-18-2012 07:47 AM

The best explanation Ive heard before, is that Johnson was simply using the claim of selling his soul to the devil in order to disguise his true genius as an artist.
