Who do you like the most?

Which of these musicians is your favorite?I would like to know who you think is better and why you give them more credit, peace!!!:D :clap:

jazzfromhell 12-30-2005 12:59 PM

I'm assuming you mean just in general, as opposed to song writing or guitar prowess. Anyway, Jimi Hendrix blows the others away in all three, if you ask me. :bowdown: :thumb:

To each his own, man!!!As far as longevity and being a great songwriter, I'd have to choose Eric Clapton...
...I mean, just listen to Cream!!!To this day, he still has a great solo career as well as being highly respected by many other greats!!!B.B. King was great too and seeing that he's now 80+ and still playing...
...that's something to respect and be influenced by!!!;) Albert King was a wild one, if ya know what I mean.I love listening to his unique sound!!!Jimi Hendrix is one that gets most of the credit from alot of people, although many of his songs get old by being overplayed so much.Taj Mahal is great musically and I would recommend any blues enthusiast/guitarist to check Taj Mahal out!!!
In closing, I've gotta say that Stevie Ray Vaughan is most likely my favorite soundwise!!!I love his sound, tone and way that he naturally played.........especially live!!!As much as I like Stevie Ray Vaughan for his tone and live performances, I've probally gotta say that Eric Clapton is most likely the best all around blues guitarist!!!Stevie Ray Vaughan wasn't around for us anywhere near as long as Eric Clapton has been and he's truly one to be missed!!!Eric Clapton did alot with Cream...
...and amazed us all with so much more later on!!!If Stevie Ray Vaughan was around just as long, I'm sure he would've done a whole lot more and, therefore, make my decision for calling him the best ever much more easier than I already am, God bless the greats!!!:beer:

Hendrix

3KingsFan 01-01-2006 05:01 AM

I voted for "Ol' B." B.B. King might just be the most important electric guitarist of the last century. In terms of influence, he is right there with Christian, Walker, Les Paul, Hendrix, etc. He has had, to date, a 56 year recording career during which he has pretty much defined contemporary urban blues. His string-bending, ability to "slide" into and out of a note, and his vibrato are unmatched IMO. Granted, I'm a hugely biased fanboy of his(I have approx. 45 CDs of his spanning '49 to '05), but I have listened to all of the above, and they are all great(Hendrix, of course is my favorite rock guitarist).

dojo 01-01-2006 09:05 AM

This is a tough one. I chose Albert King, although I love SR Vaughan and BB King too. Well I like all listed here :)

illusion 01-02-2006 05:44 PM

Jimmi Hendrix by far is the greatest guitar player in the world. The only problem about him is he built his knowledge upon other artists such as BB King and Albert King

I certainly wouldn't consider that fact a "problem".

illusion 01-02-2006 06:51 PM

Yeah because when you pick, it means that basically Jimi Hendrix is a addition to their styles so basically picking Jimi means you are picking BB and Albert

Good choice, man, but what else can I say?I put 'em all up simply because I think they are ALL great blues artists, ya know?:bowdown:

I'm not sure if I said this before, but I'd recommend that everyone here purchases as least one disc from all of these artists!!!I'm glad to see/talk to some people that are also fans of these great musicians, later!!!:drummer: :)

I wouldn't consider that a problem at all. It'd be the same if you were to pick Albert King or B.B. King, no artist is a void. All of them have influences. Also, the way I hear it, B.B. King and Jimi Hendrix have drastically different styles of playing.

My personal favorite is SRV - that is, I probably listen to him more than any of the others. I have CDs by all of these guys and they each have their strong and weak points. Not many weak points I guess, but each has something that the others don't.
The most obscure name on this list is Taj Mahal. Sad but true. He is also (oddly enough) by far the most diverse as far as styles and output.
Clapton is not GOD as some stated in the 60's but he is by far the most popular name on the list. He is truely a master on the guitar.
The Kings - Albert had more influence on Hendrix/EC/SRV than B.B. did because his style is closer to R&R than B.B., and risking blasphemy, Albert was a much better technical guitarist than B.B. B.B.'s one note leads were never groundbreaking or innovative, but highly entertaining none the less.
Hendrix was an innovator. He did things to and with a guitar that nobody did before or since. Had he not died there is no telling what else he could've accomplished.
SRV - I think he took the best of all these guys and mixed it up with some of his own ideas and came up with some of the most badass music made to this point.
my $0.02

boris jawaka 01-08-2006 02:17 AM

i love taj.

he has a real earthiness about his music - and his music covers the widest range of genres than anyone else on that list.

hes done of course, the blues, as well as motownesque soul, jazz (check out his collaboration with bob stewart on "then and now") hard rock and hendrixesque rock (the car of your dreams) and these days hes getting into world music a lot too.

he is a huge inspiration to many players including eric bibb

Black_Jack_Davey 01-10-2006 01:05 PM

I'm going with Jimi on this one.

Not to take anything away from SRV or Clapton, but Hendrix does things others just cannot duplicate. I mean, I learned how to shred some scales like SRV, and I can whip through the licks in Layla, but never will I ever get my Wah pedal to scream Voodoo Chile.

Hendrix is the best ROCK guitarist in history.

But there are a number of guitarists in other genres of music, who are better.

I'm glad to hear that some of you other guys are also into/know about Taj Mahal!!!Not many people "know" him as far as popularity is concerned, but for those of us that do, he's proved to be another great musician in a unique style focused on the blues!!!

I know he has a uniquely different style of the blues compared to the other "more popular" artists, but I think that that's one of the things that makes him so great!!!

I know I had to put the other musicians-especially B.B. King, hendrix, clapton, vaughan-on this list, but I couldn't help but put Taj Mahal here!!!I'm pretty happy seeing that Taj Mahal is getting some good comments on this poll/thread...
...I guess the "risk" of not being that well known of a blues musician was no risk at all!!!Cheers to that, everybody!!!:beer:

Good point, man!!!You know they could also judge the best guitarist on levels such as:Best "Classical", Best "Acoustic" and Best "Electric"...
...There are many "best" guitarists in the world, I would have to say!!!:D

Wild7Dustr 01-14-2006 01:30 AM

By lookin' at the list now, I've come to the (at this time) conclusion of where these artists currently stand on the list.

I will write the "top" artists and then the "bottom" artists here:

Top:
1.Stevie Ray Vaughan.
2.Eric Clapton.
3.Jimi Hendrix.

Bottom:
4.Albert King.
5.B.B. King.
6.Taj Mahal.

This is where the list is at right now, but it can change if "new" people poll in!!!So far, the list/standings look pretty good to me, cheers!!!:beer:

jazzfromhell 01-18-2006 04:54 PM

Personally, I'd put Stevie Ray Vaughan last, but that's just me. I've never really listened to Albert King, I'll have to check him out. One of these days...

Laces Out Dan! 01-18-2006 05:49 PM

Twas very tough....i love hendrix so much but BB and Albert King are also amazing....sorry i had to go BB King though

Ya gotta check him out!!!His music is actually pretty different from B.B.'s, but they are both great blues artists that are very significant to the style!!!

I would say that Albert King has more of a "party animal", electric, roots sound/style than B.B.

If you want to hear one of the most unique sounding blues legends, then you'll have to hear Albert King...highly recommended!!!;)

Danusia Rolewicz 02-25-2006 04:43 AM

what a turnaround. It had to be BB for me....

halfdeadhippo 02-25-2006 03:11 PM

I voted for Hendrix, on the basis that he could improvise some interesting stuff for having never learned any theory.

cozzay 05-03-2006 02:22 AM

Jimi Hendrix because his music is still unique and aggressive. He has inspired many this days musicians and I like what he did with his guitar.

Frances 05-03-2006 06:14 AM

SRV
BB King
Hendrix

swim 05-03-2006 02:30 PM

Clapton is my favorite but when it comes to skill it becomes rather close.

explosions-in-my-pants 05-03-2006 02:33 PM

i'm going with Eric Clapton

Reasons:

Number 1:: The Yardbirds

Number 2:: Cream

Number 3:: solo

Number 4:: writings

number 5:: voice

number 6:: guitar playing

number 7:: real talent

If you don't like SRV, you probably won't like Albert King, SRV took alot from him.

I voted for SRV/

hookers with machineguns 05-04-2006 09:01 PM

Can't say that I'm familiar with Albert King. I voted for Taj Mahal, just as my favorite. I really like BB King though, didn't notice until after I voted.

...of Epic Questions 05-05-2006 08:31 AM

I went with Hendrix - the man was a guru.

kiki chunt 05-05-2006 04:23 PM

Hendrix - no qualms.
Not to discount the other great men on this list, those who preceded and inspired him, or those who outlived him with larger bodies of seminal work to their credit, but . . . he's Jimi, y'know?

Raine 06-20-2006 02:24 PM

It's a tie between Eric Clapton and Hendrix.

ddp 08-25-2006 07:08 AM

Henrix is the most influential guitarist of all time. We have so much to thank him for. His influence on rock guitar is unmatched by any other and his playing touched all that followed him.

Stevie Ray was a blues technician the likes of with we may never see again but was a completely different type of artist. Less of an explorer than hendrix.

Pink Moon 10-04-2006 02:27 PM

Clapton's my favorite. If it were between skill that would be hard.

one_more_atrocity 10-05-2006 09:32 AM

jimi hendrix, just because of the fact that he's jimi hendrix.

boo boo 10-05-2006 12:22 PM

Hendrix.

This isn't a very fair poll though.
