Default Not Trout Mask Replica

All this Zappa stuff has put me in the mood for some Captain Beefheart.

But what?

Everybody & their mother knows that Trout Mask Replica is the album to get but what I want to know is what comes after that.

Answers on a postcard & stuff .........

Probably just a lot of noise.
Not as bad as 'Shut Up And Play Yer Guitar' though.

Personally, I started with "Safe as Milk" which is a brilliant blues-rock album. Obviously they were pretty constrained by their record label as even the most normal song on "Trout Mask" is waaay weirder than the most bizarre song on "Safe as Milk," but it's still a great album and does have some pretty interesting variations on blues rock.

After Trout I would look into Lick My Decals Off, Baby, it's probably more accessible than Trout but not by alot. I recommend that or The Spotlight Kid as the best Beefheart albums to start with for anyone new to his music, where as most people will jump straight into Trout without any knowledge of what they are getting into. Safe As Milk is a good album if you have listened to Trout and enjoyed it, it toes a different line to Trout, be it a little more conventional.

Yeah, I've heard Safe as Milk and Lick My Decals Off, Baby are the best, after Trout Mask Replica.

I'd upload it, but I only have it on LP.

Most indie record stores I've been to carry it, though.
