St. Germain is the stage name of French musician Ludovic Navarre who mixes elements of Jazz with Electronica. The 2000 album Tourist is the last album he made under the St. Germain umbrella and it is a classic hybrid of those genres and regarded as a cult classic.

Appealing to both Jazz and Electronica audiences without compromising ideals, it is a must hear for any who want to dabble in either genres.

Personally I think this album is more than on par with French bands that struck big in the 90's E.G Air and Daft Punk.

I've been playing Tourist a ton the past couple of months. Every time I pass St. Germain on my ipod I feel like playing it. It's really surprising the places he takes the music. Sure Thing is definitely one of the highlights. Great stuff!

I always think St. Germain starts out sounding pretty interesting but gets boring halfway through track 2. On every album.
Probably missing something

Do you like jazz to begin with? I find St. Germain is one of the few electronic/jazz fusion artists that actually requires an interest in jazz to get into. The guitar work on the second track of Tourist is actually really damn good.

And I always think St. Germain it's too polished, too obviously "made", no feeling, too digital.
I am a huge fan of dub music. They have a dub track on one of their albums.
It's technically perfect, but it lacks the imperfect groove that makes dub, completely.
Same goes for Jazz. Yes it has all the elements, but it's still not jazzy.
It's like... A singer who can sing every note without missing one note, still won't be able to sing jazz as good as let's say Tom Waits. He has jazz in his voice, even when he can't really sing

That's a good point. I agree with you, actually. Sadly, I think it is unavoidable when trying to combine jazz with something so precise as electronic music. You lose a little bit of that feeling there. I still think it is perfectly enjoyable, though. If I want some hardcore jazz, I'll throw on some Blue Note.

Mmmm... It's hard to think of some good examples where jazz and modern music go hand in hand. There's some modern dub that really works, but jazz... Not sure.
I would say St. Germain is a Mixture of Acid Jazz and Dance. And we've already had the 'is acid jazz jazz?' discussion. My answer was no for exactly the same reason I don't really like saint germain. It's enjoyable, it sounds nice, it's dancy elevator music. But I don't put it on myself. Altough I have both tourist and that other album
