Joshua Redman is one of my favorite current artists.

James Carter is another.

A battle between the two.

On a website called "Listverse", I found one of those rather meaningless lists, " Greatest Jazz Musicians Of All Time" :

Quote:
15. Art Tatum
14. Thelonious Monk
13. Charles Mingus
12. Art Blakey
11. Dizzy Gillespie
10. Max Roach
9. Billie Holiday
8. John Coltrane
7. Count Basie
6. Coleman Hawkins
5. Benny Goodman
4. Miles Davis
3. Charlie Parker
2. Duke Ellington
1. Luis Armstrong
So far the combined forces of MB have only chosen the three musicians in bold from the list. ( Congrats to ThePhantastasio and Skaligojurah )

I`m going off-list as well, as one of my favorite albums is by Don Cherry. Though knowledgeable people say that he was a limited player, he was something of a pioneer in directing his jazz sensibilities back towards Africa and other parts of the globe, and this track, Degi-Degi is one of the results :

Oh, nice suggestion. I'm going to need to check this guy out.

On another note, I didn't know hipsters listened to jazz. I thought they listened to proto-noise-electronic-ska-post-pop-industrial?

I'll reply with a quote from my earlier post :

And Bill Evans is great There are many lovely jazz records in his discography. One I've enjoyed recently is a release of him and Chet Baker playing together called The Complete Legendary Sessions. This version of Time on my Hands is one of the songs on the record (the uploader got the title slightly wrong it seems).

Very laid back

Yes! Coltrane is wonderful. I love his album, A Love Supreme. I've played it countless times, and I still haven't burnt it out.
