Talking Big band!

The biggest of the bands, and my favorite jazz. (one of my favorite subgenres of any music) Nothing gets me more than a 15 minute rendition of Channel One Suite by my man Buddy Rich and his band.

Anyone else share this giant love? And throw me suggestions of some true big band jams. Preferrably ones with giant drum solos that make you wonder how its humanly possible to hit that many things that quickly.

Oh and trumpet features. I love me some horny tracks.

Very nice. Heard the CB band at Disneyland many years ago. So cool to see Freddie just sit there just play steady rhythm gtr. Really drove the band

I recently discovered the album Jumpin Jive by Joe Jackson, was produced in the 1980s and captures the Big Band feel perfectly. "Courtin Time" from Prince's _Emancipation_ was the first song I heard and recognised as being in the Big Band style.

I like this style of music its annoying how mainstream jazz stations only play it week day mornings when im at work, at least there is Internet radio!

There are just so many out there. Here are three I enjoy:

Arturo Sandoval- Rhythm of Our World (Hot House album) : One of the best trumpet features of the genre, in my opinion.

Charles Mingus- Moanin' (Blues & Roots album): Polyphony at its finest. (The video is a revised version of the song)

Maynard Ferguson- his rendition of "Airegin" (New Vintage album): Lots of Horn.

I would post links, but I can't since I haven't made 15+ posts yet

Big Bands are amazing, my favorite big band is Sun Ra's famous(or infamous) band the Arkestra. I do like Count Basie and his band a bit too.

Big band is awesome, awesome music. For a newish big band, I suggest the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Not sure if they qualify since they also mix in other genres, such as Eastern European music, soul, or alternative rock. But they are amazing.
