I've always loved Brecker's rendition of "Sonnymoon." His improvising is wonderful.

Only really know them from their live version of Skunk Funk but it's pretty good.

I'm not sure about the saxophonist, but I do enjoy this melody. It's soothing, and I was like drowning in it.

John Coltrane & Don Cherry - The Avant-Garde

Once again, had no idea this even existed - basically Coltrane playing with Ornette Coleman's band! What a concept! The interesting thing to my ears is that, whereas Miles and Lee Morgan tend to kind of lay down a melodic bed for Trane's bursts of dissonance, here Cherry is the frenetic one, making Coltrane almost sound like the voice of reason. He definitely gets weird (I especially like 'Focus on Sanity'), but it's kind of mellow, in a strange way, especially when compared to Ornette himself. Very interesting juxtaposition of styles. It's stuff like this that makes Jazz such fertile listening ground.

I've been wanting to listen to that for a really long time. Glad to hear it's so good, I may give it a listen while studying today.

Listened to this last night!

John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderly. It's as good as it sounds. Nothing particularly new for me, but wonderful bebop from two of the greatest sax players in jazz.

Wow! yet again - had no idea that existed. Like Trane just went around doing all these little duet records with people. There's another one he did with Monk and apparently, yet another he did with Kenny Burrell. I will definitely add this to my list.

Peter Brotzmann, Paul Nilssen-Love, & Mats Gustafsson - The Fat is Gone

Brilliant modern free improvisation. These three are machines, to say the least.
