Best Blues instrument?

What do you think is the best instrument suited for Blues? I think you really can't beat the guitar, but some might argue the piano is better. What do you think?

MobilizeTerror 12-21-2003 06:23 PM

Yea I think guitar is the best for blues. Or the harmonica lol.

There's nothing quite like a good harmonica. :D

Human voice gets the vote from me.
The different ranges, styles and pure emotional played well the voice is the sweetest and truest instrument of them all.

makes yer weep

flamingfishbone 08-07-2004 08:49 AM

HARMONICA FOR EVER! But i think it's the guitar lol.....B.B. King baby yeah!

franceska 08-11-2004 07:11 AM

for blues it is the armonica, for jazz it's the sax, but the instrument i like at best is the hammond

All_Nite_Dinah 10-23-2004 11:25 PM

Blues I would have to say good acoustic guitar, and a good soulful voice. Nothing more is needed. I do really dig harmonica though, and play it as often as I can.

swingkids. 10-27-2004 10:45 AM

****in trombone!! I played it for 7 years!

WeIRd lIl MosHeR FrEak 10-28-2004 06:02 AM

Harmonica, guitar, piano

Junior Saint 10-28-2004 10:31 AM

It doesn't really matter - if you can make an instrument sound bluesy/jazzy, then use it!

Kdees 11-01-2004 03:01 PM

everything that plays blues is a GOODIE :D

soundgardenrox 11-26-2004 05:20 PM

i guess guitar or harmonica

doliphante 12-24-2004 12:19 PM

My vote is for the Piano and I second the Hammond B3

doliphante 12-24-2004 12:20 PM

Actually ya all are right!!!

Kurt_Cobain 02-05-2005 02:39 PM

I think its definately the electric guitar. BB King, Muddy Waters, even Hendrix did some blues songs. And the piano is bluesy aswell. I love Norah Jones' music.

A BIG ol' back-breaking heavy Hammond B-3 organ in skilled hands IMO is the sweetest sound in the world !!!!!

Kurt_Cobain 02-06-2005 10:06 AM

I think bass can be quite bluesy if its allowed to shine through, it just depends on the song. The bass intro on Norah Jones 'Sunrise' was quite an upbeat intro.

NaNaNer 02-22-2007 09:27 AM

Harmonica..something I wish I could learn to play.

Ace 02-23-2007 03:26 PM

Harmoniicaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
Though I got to have me some guitar too.
You should listen to Groove Armada - Hands Of Time
and Tom Rothrock - Rollin' Crumblin'

Ma Cherie 02-25-2007 09:42 PM

harmonica is always great
and i've heard once or twice the sax
guitar and someother things as well

livemusicchick 03-01-2007 09:41 AM

Tenor Sax gets my vote for best enhancer

Nice rich tones weaving through the tune. Ahhhhh. I think vocal would have to be the best instrument. That's where the emotion is that makes non musicians relate best too.

Kevorkian Logic 03-01-2007 05:45 PM

Harmonica or the blow-bottle.

Those 2 instruments always make me smile.

littleknowitall 03-02-2007 06:39 AM

Harmonica is da best.

NaNaNer 03-02-2007 10:10 AM

I also really like the saxophone..Alto and Tenor...the tenor has a richer sound to it but the alto plays an important role in a lot of jazz pieces...

mandown23 03-28-2007 10:15 AM

harmonica - but guitar is the best too -

if you could blow into a guitar, THAT would be the best instrument

paengkee 04-04-2007 02:07 AM

a fender stratocaster.

sarxist 05-30-2007 08:13 PM

For those real low, down blues you've got to have the harmonica. It's how it all started.

wheresmypotato 05-31-2007 01:29 PM

easily the guitar

slide guitar on a straight tuning to D or G, cant beat that sound. ive got a few old hollow bodies and theres no better way to make that beaten up and original sound.

Albert Maksimov 07-05-2007 08:35 AM

The Harmonica.
This is soul of Blues.
Blues is Blues only thanks to Harmonica...

boo boo 07-06-2007 12:24 PM

Haha. No.

This is a dumb question, everyone knows that its the guitar.

<3<3<3<3<3

I have a brass slide. I even use it on my bass sometimes.

Albert Maksimov 07-06-2007 02:53 PM

The black slaves and guitars ?

littleknowitall 07-07-2007 05:25 AM

undoubtable the harmonica.

SweetSamBlues 07-11-2007 03:11 PM

What did Robert Johnson play?
Guitar is the root of modern blues

Fiddle_Tunes19 07-23-2007 02:29 PM

VOICE by far is the blues instrument. Then probably acoustic guitar.

Frances 07-24-2007 09:47 PM

You idiots. There is no right answer. It varies from song to song.
