The best simply... Oh Oh da da Oh Oh da da oh da Oh da da Yooop
thats umm watermelon man yaaa |
I intend to get into some jazz soon (going through a bit of a post-punk blitz at the moment) and when I do I'm gonna start with this guy. Of what I've heard he is an amazing composer.
All I've got is his latest album River, the one which comprises mostly of duets, and it was one of my favourite albums of 2007 - such wonderfully laid back and smooth vibes to the whole thing. This track in particular is pure gold; I'll definitely be hunting down a few more works of his in future and going from, 'cos frankly my collection of jazz (of all kinds) is pathetic. |

The only albums I have by Herbie Hancock are Thrust and Future Shock. Both are really good and very different from each other.

A very good Jazz Funk version of Watermelon man can be found here.

I became a musician because my dad was a Miles fan. Herbie was one of his favorite artists and he always had HH albums and tapes in the house. I found Thrust in my dad's collection one day and the rest was history for me. I was hooked. His 70s electric period was amazing. I found out he was the first platinum-selling jazz artist with the Headhunters album and was the most successful of the fusion artists from Mile's fusion stable at that time.

Unfortunately Chameleon has been done to death by so many bad jazz bands it's cliche to play it in public now
I still like to listen to Herbie every now and then, though |
This guy is EXCELLENT. I have two of his albums a workmate gave me on a usb stick; 'Sunlight' (1977) & 'Future Shock' (1983). I think 'Sunlight' is the better of the two and I love the cheesy vocoder vocals - it reminds me of Neil Young's 'Trans' album (which I also love). I cant wait to hear more of his stuff but not sure where to go next, any recommendations??

This Has Always Been My Favourite Track- It's Just Awesome!
