Default Theory or songs

I'm going put this out here and see what comes up. I have ben taking Guitar lessons for quite some time (several years) and love them, learning, Modes, intervals, Arpeggios,, improvising. chord tones, playing to backing tracks.. Transcribing Ect Ect... Ive been wondering how long should I do this before I get serious about learning and memorizing entire songs and maybe even having some fun with others and get out of the woodshed... Any reply would be appreciated..
Thank You.
