I would recommend going into The Witch blind because the trailer is a poor representation.

Usually what happens is that people try to make me watch some supposedly brilliant horror movie, then I cave in and watch it, then I inevitably hate it and they feel disappointed. My brother has a ton of horror movies but stopped bothering recommending any years go.
Well go into them like it's gonna be terrible and they'll be your favourite movies.

I was once told that Pontypool was just the movie to watch if I didn't like horror. It was going to be totally different and very interesting and blah, blah... I watched it, I hated it.

I might give them a chance. Maybe on halloween, since that's when everyone will have been talking to me about horror movies for a couple weeks straight.

Did you catch what might make a person say that it's so different though? It's most certainly rooted in zombie film conventions, but it's incredibly unique.

Yes, it had an interesting premise. I actually liked it at first. But eventually, it just devolved into a standard zombie flick and my good will went out the window. I basically liked it best when it wasn't a horror movie yet.

No.

Idk I think the message of language as a means of widespread and romantic control made it really special. I can get why you don't dig it though.

What specifically is it about horror movies that you don't like?

Well ok maybe I'm being a bit simplistic about it. It is a horror movie and it relied more and more on familiar horror tropes and horror movie violence the further the movie went along. I'd like a completely different type of movie to do something more interesting with a similar premise. It is an unconventional movie, but ultimately felt like it relied on things I don't care about.

I just don't enjoy all of the violence, gore and that focus on building an atmosphere of dread and creepiness. It's the bread and butter of horror movies, but completely wasted on me. So, if a horror movie is to have a chance of appealing to me, it will have to primarily focus on something else. Characters, most of all. Creative sets, good cinematography, a good soundtrack... Things that usually aren't priority number 1 (or 2, or 3) for horror movies.

Horror movies tend to aim to make you feel tense, creeped out, unnerved or have you reeling at the horrors of some terrible event. I don't enjoy any of that. That's not to say that I want all movies to be nice and cuddly, but I don't connect to the way horror movies go about things. They just feel destructive to me. Like there's no positive, constructive motivation behind, aside from trying to entertain through discomfort - which I just plainly don't enjoy.

It's kind of a misconception that horror thrives on gore. And dude...Pontypool had the bolded by the truckload.
