Favorite Horror Films

Lets give this its own thread, shall we?

The Shining

I just saw this movie for the first time recently. Although I am not completely sure as to the whole plot, this has to be one of the weirdest movies ever. I was on the edge of my seat quite often. I am sure that if I actually understood the ending, that this movie would be even better. Jack Nicholson plays the physco killer role perfectly, and no other actor could have been better for this film. Those two little girls....completely creepy.

Saw

This has to be on the list of greatest horror movies. Throughout the entire movie, you are confused, but not so confused that you don't understand the movie. It is just enough confusion to keep you excited. Then, about halfway through, you are led to beleive that the killer is a certain person, only to be completely shocked by the twist that ensues. This really is a great movie, even though the actors could have been better. You know you have a good film when the actors suck, but the movie still completely holds up, and isn't really brought down by the acting.

Audition

I finally got this movie downloaded, and I was too scared to watch it. Finally, I mustered up the courage and played it. I was not disappointed. This movie is subtitle ( the movie is in Japanese) but that definitly doesn't take away from the scare factor. At the begining the movie seems like your normal romantic comedy. Single, middle aged man is lonely. He happens to be a casting coordinator for a movie studio. He sets up a fake audition, in hopes of finding the perfect woman. He does, and they proceed to date. Little by little, you find out how twisted this girl really is. She keeps a gimp-ish thing in her house, that she tortures. It is completely creepy. The whole premise is that the woman has always been taken advantage of by men, so she is out to get her revenge. Unfortunatly, the man she decides to take it on, is an all around good guy. Much different from the others she knew and dated. Even if this wasnt a horror movie, it would still be a great film. It is wonderfully written, with a twist that will leave you shocked. Pick it up. I highly reccomend. Plus you will be scared ****less

Post yours

The Howling - only the first one, absolutely bone chilling

Last House On The Left - This movie is completely SAVAGE!!!

Susperia - Dario Argento. Nuff Said

jazzfromhell 02-21-2006 10:52 PM

Some of these are borderline horror (as in, the Thing could be sci-fi, Silence of the Lambs could be a thriller, etc.), but I think they all fit.

The Thing ('82 version, original bored me to death)
The Silence of the Lambs
Evil Dead
Evil Dead II
Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead
Psycho (original of course, not pointless remake)
The Shining

Saw

The grudge - because of how many balls it sucked. my friends and i got so many laughs out of that. (some at the expense of our (at that time) girlfriends.) great times.

im not really one for horror films, not because im easily scared, but because i find other genres of film more amusing. but ill post more if i remember any more that ive seen. that one is just...the worst of the worst, and i got a kick out of it.

Seeing that with my friends was one of the greatest theater experiences I've ever had. We only went to bug my brother, his friends, and their girlfriends (they were in sixth grade at the time, so "boyfriend and girlfriend" was basically no different than just being friends), and we had a great time. Almost everyone else in the theater was scared ****less, but we were laughing the whole time. An excellent evening, that one was.

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 02-22-2006 12:31 AM

^pretty much exactly how my night was when i saw that. except our whole group was made up of freshmen in high school, and our girlfriends really were girlfriends. other than that, thats pretty much how it went. great times.

second only to that was "the ring 2". i threw a peice of paper behind my head while we were waiting for the movie, and i hit a big black guy in the face. that was the only thing scary about that movie. the big black guy three rows back who i could have sworn had a gun and was contemplating blowing my head off. after wards i went up behind my friend and did the "seven days" thing, and she hit me in the nuts. not cool.

the most entertaining thing about that damn movie was the part where they got charged by mooses, and the part where the woman says "im not your f*cking mommy". other than that....it sucked. and its my second favorite.

lyricalgirl 02-22-2006 02:42 AM

Scarlett O'Hara 02-22-2006 04:10 AM

EVIL DEAD is the only horror movie worth watching.

Part of the terror might have been the fact that I was on shrooms when I watched it, but it was still really intense and the cinematography was unlike anything I'd ever seen. That movie is unimitatable.

Daughter of darkness is okay. I used to like it at first, as it was the first horror film I ever saw. But now it's just like all the other vampire films - okay but unbelieveable. I think Blade is better.

You can't rent it, or buy it. It hasn't been released, or given a certificate. It's only available to watch when it's on Television. Fantastic film though, and a great poster. :(

The original Frankenstein was awesome, the scariest bit is when he throws that little girl into the lake, to she if she can float =/ poor frankenstein.
Seven is great as well, that movie scared the **** out of me. Sloth was the worst one, the imagry alone has stuck with me since I saw it. I just don't understand how you could love Seven, but hate Saw, they were so similar.
And Physco is an absolute classic. The only guy in cinema who is crazier than Jack Torrence is Norman Bates.

TrampInaTux 02-22-2006 11:45 AM

Saw is the best horror film... ever. It's got everything-gore, suspense, action, twists. Sure the acting isn't the best but the pure brilliance of the movie covers it.

Mr Sensitive 02-22-2006 11:48 AM

Saw was boring.

explosions-in-my-pants 02-22-2006 11:49 AM

yea i'm not a big fan or Saw either.. but it wasn't bad or anything..

TrampInaTux 02-22-2006 11:51 AM

I don't know how you could class Saw as boring-I was on the edge of my seat all the way through.

bungalow 02-22-2006 11:52 AM

You actually acknowledge Mr Sensitives comments?!?! Just ignore that kid. Saw is a great movie, regardless of genre.

Kid? I am older than you.

Saw might indeed be a great movie, but I did not like it.

bungalow 02-22-2006 12:01 PM

You can be older than me all you want, you're still a kid.
And I wasn't digging at you for not liking it, I couldn't care less if you liked it, it is usually just better if you give some kind of something that resembles a reason why you thought it was boring.

Er, no. I think the word you are looking for is immature.

So you were digging at me because?

I just found it dull, it didn't excite me.

Simply writing "It was boring"
and not contributing anymore than that

See, that wasn't so hard now was it?

I fail to see the difference between "it was boring" and "it was dull and didnt excite me".

Anyway. . .

I like Rose Red.

Oh, forgive me for not taking the argument a step further.
