Default Iran defiantly rejects new UN demands

http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/03/30/D8GLVH400.html

Quote:
...agreement Wednesday by the 15-member Security Council to ask the U.N. nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, to report back in 30 days on Iran's compliance with demands to stop enriching uranium.

In Vienna, Iran's chief representative to the IAEA, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, told The Associated Press that "it is impossible to go back to suspension."

"This enrichment matter is not reversible," Soltanieh said.
"Ooops, heh, yeah. See we already started, and we can't stop. No turning back now. Heh. Sorry!"

This is only a matter of time. Iran has the money, supplies, and such to get nukes, and don't care about the toothless UN demands. The US has drawn the line at not having Iran with nukes. Should be interesting.

And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought: My God... the genius of that.

Yeah, but I wouldn't say I'm too much against this measure. This has been building up for quite some time now, much earlier than 9/11. Giving nukes to Iran is giving a gun to your local crackhead.

i hope to god you don't try to invade. Iran is a completely different situation than Iraq, and even Iraq proved to be a disaster. what do you think will happen with a country that was not under sanctions and has a lot more weapons and manpower? and a legaly elected president ( that, truth be told, might just be on crack )?

It's been leading to this for years, even before Bush's presidency. It's not that i hope to invade, i just find it likely...very likely. But i think if anything kind of invasion is done it will be done with more power than we did with Iraq.

The US is trying to fight a war with the media as well as Iraq. You can't find a PC war, war in it's nature isn't PC.

The Iran stories are so much more interesting than Iraq ones. Looks like the US responded quite quickly to Iran's little message.

Quote:
The US military plans to detonate a 700 tonne explosive charge in a test called "Divine Strake" that will send a mushroom cloud over Las Vegas, a senior defense official said.

"I don't want to sound glib here but it is the first time in Nevada that you'll see a mushroom cloud over Las Vegas since we stopped testing nuclear weapons," said James Tegnelia, head of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency.

Tegnelia said the test was part of a US effort to develop weapons capable of destroying deeply buried bunkers housing nuclear, chemical or biological weapons.

"We have several very large penetrators we're developing," he told defense reporters.

"We also have -- are you ready for this - a 700-tonne explosively formed charge that we're going to be putting in a tunnel in Nevada," he said.

"And that represents to us the largest single explosive that we could imagine doing conventionally to solve that problem," he said.

The aim is to measure the effect of the blast on hard granite structures, he said.

"If you want to model these weapons, you want to know from a modeling point of view what is the ideal best condition you could ever set up in a conventional weapon -- what's the best you can do.

"And this gets at the best point you could get on a curve. So it allows us to predict how effective these kinds of weapons ... would be," he said.

He said the Russians have been notified of the test, which is scheduled for the first week of June at the Nevada test range.

"We're also making sure that Las Vegas understands," Tegnelia said.
