Controversy (country, Radiohead, irish, track, quote)

Well religion was certainly part of it, about 100 years ago.

Now the people are bitching, fighting and bombing because of land. Most know nothing about Home Rule and so on, they just fight 'coz its cool'.

And yeah I am haha but as I said, it is NOTHING to do with my opinion. I really don't care about religion, at all. I just happen to believe that Unionism was good 100 years ago.

I think that England is ****ed up when it comes to different races. You can't put an England flag up on St Georges day because some silly bitch thinks it's racist. Immigrants get to crash here easily and then bend the laq so they actually end up in a better financial position than a lot of other people who are actually working.

So many people here in England are racist, and it's not hard to see why. I'm not one of these people, but sometimes it winds me up I have to admit.

protestants in northern ireland are a remnant of the imperial system , of times when british pigs rules and abused the irish nation. i'm going by the notion that protestants are actually english and scots that settled there as fashist land owners. if protestants are irish people that converted ( no doubt under the pressure of the imperial pigs ), then they should have no problem living in the republic of ireland. one nation, two religions....

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

Irish protestants are a result of people not liking the catholic ways, and extremists rebelling against the catholic church.

And likewise, the Catholics were also Irish people that converted, when St. Patrick came and inflicted his evil Scottish ways upon them.

The battle of the Boyne (which I believe is taken as the point at which England took pretty much full control of Ireland) was in 1690. If not, then it was probably some earlier point. Since then, the Northern Ireland area has been part of Britain, 'opting out' of joining the Irish Free State (the republic) in 1920 when given the choice. The people who were part of united Ireland over 300 years ago are now long dead, whereas a majority of the current population of Northern Ireland are happy to live as part of Britain. That's what they grew up with and it seems pointless to change it just because somebody wants to make the maps look prettier.

Those who want to live as part of the republic of Ireland could always move there.

You really have opened a can of worms here Marijan.
Northern Ireland (Ulster) today is enjoying a ceasefire and an end to the 'Troubles' is hopefully a thing of the past.
What you have to understand about Northern Ireland is the fact that the majority there wish to remain British and vote democratically to be so.

The violence of the past 30 years was caused mainly by a minority of Republicans (catholics) and a minority of Loyalists (Protestants).
The majority of both catholic/protestant people of Northern Ireland, wished for nothing but peace. Finally with a shared Government, that wish can now be a reality. Lets hope so.

Being Croatian, with the problems your nation has had, you will understand that the situation in Northern Ireland (in the past) is a sore point for both British and Irish.
