i live in canada. there are no guns around for me to refuse to use, not that i would even need one. the vast majority of the guns used in violence here are illegal. ever wonder why gun violence is so prevalent in the US? because its so easy to get a gun. you wouldn't need them for "self-defense" in the first place if they were more restricted.

yea the only reason you would need a gun for "self defense" is if you were involved in organized crime in some way.

No offense but your logic is VERY flawed. First off, taking away guns doesnt reduce crime. It reduces gun crime. Look up the U.K.'s crime statistics after they banned firearms. Why would I reduce my protection to a blunt object..

how is my logic flawed? i said nothing about reducing crime. why do you need a gun to reduce crime?

And theres nothing I can do to affect crime rates. I dont care. Id rather prepare for some punk kid lookin for cash than whine to the mayor or PD about crime rates.

Why would you need a gun for that? I'm sure a baseball/cricket bat would suffice.

I still don't get it. I would've been less humiliated, perhaps more scared that they'd come after me and kick me in the face tbh...

But I will take your Cholo story and raise you with... Having to run after my friend's dog earlier today, shouting his name (the dog, not my friend) whilst dressed in my pyjamas and shedding red hair dye after me. The blokes sat outside the pub took great pleasure in watching the debacle. The dogs name is Allah.

I'm sure I'll see the funny side of it one day. Providing the bloke filming it on his phone doesn't have a Youtube account.

Wow. Sorry it happened to you, but it's really funny.

I kinda sympathize with the "bearing arms" stance 90'sMusicKid is talking about, partly because I've grown up that way in the U.S., but also because of the fact that criminals/murderers/etc. aren't likely to follow the same rules as law abiding citizens will. The potential for someone being in possession of a firearm illegally (happens all the time in the states as far as people with felonies are concerned) is higher than the potential for me to be able to protect myself in that scenario with only a baseball bat.

While I know that outright bans of all firearms make it a lot harder to obtain firearms, I still don't feel comfortable letting my ability to protect myself by the most effective means be taken away by a government who's military has the right to use them under its command.
If it ever came down to it, I'd want to be able to defend myself from my own government as well as a common thug.
To be stripped of all relevant self-protective means, as a citizen, would make me feel a lot less safe and a lot more dependent.
