If you live in the LA area, read this, and PM me for more information.
The South Central Farm was raided by LA County Sheriffs this morning at 5 AM.
The farm is 14 acres of public farmland used by many as their only source of food for their families. Many of these families live off of the food they grow themselves. This farm is divided into 360 plots and is thought to be one of the biggest urban gardens in the country. The farm is being demolished as we speak. Trees are being cut down, bulldozers are demolishing the food supply of these families, and hundreds of protesters have gathered to rally against the eviction of the tenents. If you live in the Los Angeles area, do not sit back and let this happen to these families. Go out and show your support. The adress is: South West Corner of the South Central Farm Intersection of: 41st St. & Long Beach Ave. Los Angeles, Ca 90058 For more information on the farm visit www.southcentralfarmers.com |

There was development plans from a compant called Libaw-Horowitz Investment Company in 1995, which, after being executed by the City negotiators and the company itself. The agreement was still subject to approval from the LA City Council who denied to sale, and allowed the Farm to stay. The company sued the city of Los Angeles, and after court ruling after court ruling, LHIC won the suit, and the tenets were served with an eviction notice on March 1, 2006.
This farm is the main source of income and food for over 350 families, all of whom are being evicted, and their farm plots are being destroyed. Remember, this is South Central Los Angeles, these people are poor as it is. Now they are left with no food or income source. It is a disgrace, and it's disgusting that the city can forcefully take this property away from these people. |

Its stupid how the city managed to put things into positions like that. They went for negotiations to sell the land back to LHIC (who had to sell them the land in the first place by the eminent domain rule) just three years after the land was granted to the farmers. What a bunch of knob-heads.
