It all depends on if you're doingwhat you really want to do. My sister's doing Theoretical physics (Pressure? what pressure?) and she's loved it since she started. It really hard work, but she enjoys it. If you find your niche, and your subject, you're set. That's the way I see it anyway

I've always wondered what the point was in going to uni just to get drunk and take illicit substances. You can do that without going through all that higher education stuff, and plus you wont be surrounded by goddamn students.

very true. when I finally do go back to uni, I'll be there to study something I love doing, not to get drunk every night and party like crazy. I get more than enough of that now. I never understood the people who shelled out thousands of dollars to go to uni, only to piss it all away by partynig and flunking out of their courses.

i dont know how students can afford to get drunk.. i barely have enough money to eat. i hate the year-one culture of drink as much as possible as quickly as possible. plus its noisy, forceful, and annoys the people who dont want to take part (this rather amusing wikipedia article sums up every friday night on campus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campus_14)

but then i also dont understand people working their asses off an not having any fun.. there needs to be a balance. and i think that balance is about quietly enjoying independance. enjoying studying and being there and with new friends, without having to consume large quantities of karni coktail.

I have hardly read any posts with ambition. Does anyone here have goals?

now i just want to run my label, have a job good enough to support a family, buy the house im living in now and live here with my boyfriend.

My goal is to live a happy life, and do whatever I want to do at some stage during it. Vague, but Who cares? it's a good goal to have, and it's not constrictingly specific.

My main goals are:
1. To get my PhD plus a few published articles in the bag.
2. To learn to converse fluently in Mandarin chinese.

Those are my only two real goals, but they're more challenging than my old ones (getting a first is not hard if you take the right approach to studying). If you have many goals at one time you spread yourself too thin and don't end up achieving anything. And if you make your goals too easy, you end up achieving all of them without a problem and then you end up stuck for anything to do. That happened to me a couple of years ago and I was bored as hell for a while.

How about you Alo, what are your goals?

Goals change. I'm not a fan of setting my sights on something that could become unfeasible or unpalatable within the week.
