haha, yeah....after you travel around for a while, it's really not that big a deal, and no, its a nice place, and the seucrity is fine. I was in a 10 bed dorm so that was a bit more than i'm used to, usually there's only 4 or 5 beds in the rooms i'm in, but this was really cheap and i need to save money like crazy right now. once i get to south america, south east asia and india and places like that i'll have to be a bit more cautious about where to stay, but pretty much any first world country, the hostels are gonna be safe if you're in an ok part of town. the only time i've ever felt uncomfortable in a hostel was when i got a cheap single room in a place for a night in auckland, turned out being in south auckland, no wonder it was so cheap....

not exactly sure where it was, if southwest auckalnd is any worse it was probably there, haha. the buildings around it were a homeless shelter, a salvation army, and all the other ones were sketchy as hell looking warehouses. f*cking creepy, haha

nah, i'm at nomads capital, way cheaper than the YHA. if i can i try to stay in smaller hostels, meaning avoiding the YHA's, you meet people so much easier, and a lot of the time they're more comfortable

Ah I see....never heard of that one...
Fair enough though. People seem to get all uptight at the larger hostles, I've noticed.

yeah, plus its just really kinda of impersonal, people dont mingle as much, the best hostel i've been at so far was in nelson, only held 7 people, and the girl running it was awesome. the night i left she bought us all hells pizza, the bill came to about $85 and she paid for it all. plus she baked free fruitcake for us every day, just little things like that, it was sweet

do it, its fun. plus you can do it insanely cheap if you go to a country with a huge exchange rate difference, which is why my next stop in south america, the flights arent even that expensive from calgary, and once i get there i can live on practically nothing.

That's pretty damn cool!

I've been thinking about travelling when I finish college but What I'll probably do is just go interrailing for a month or so after my first year. That's what my sis did and she had really good fun.
