17 weeeks isn't too bad. At least you aren't drowned in it.

Over here Rugby is almost a year long thing these days, and the organisers wonder why crowd attendences are low, people are just all rugby'd out.

No no I think you got the wrong end of the stick.I`m not talking about a Soccer vs American Football thing here at all.

The point i`m making is ALL sport in the UK is very much based on community spirit.
Local rivalries and tradition are a big big thing. And that goes right up to the top clubs. No matter how much Manchester Utd beat teams from Europe and win trophies they`ll always get the most satisfaction from hammering Manchester City or Liverpool.Arsenal fans love beating the crap out of Tottenham.

You introduce franchises over here and it`s seen to rip the heart out of clubs and it just becomes a name.Yet over there it seems pretty common.

I`m not sure what you mean by 'our one English team'. Wimbledon are an English soccer team playing in the English league.I was using them as an example of how franchising doesn`t work over here.

I just wondered what you thought about it and if you think there`s any good from it seeing you see it more often over there

Thats all

well, i certainly hope we never see the "Microsoft Bears" or the "Pepsi Pirates" if thats what youre getting at. that would definitely put a damper on the games. but teams do rely on major corporate sponsors to fund their stadiums and their payrolls as well. and we do have heated rivalries in the NFL as well. The KC Chiefs and the Oakland Raiders absolutely HATE each other.
