Urban myth , that song was written in the 17th/18th century , the black death happened about 300 years earlier,

refers to a torture device called a pendlum(like in a clock) it swung back and forth while slowly coming down to cut who ever was unfortunate enougth to be under in half very slowly with every swing(edgar allen poes "pit and the pundelum)

and yes it also refer to the giotine with which they cut off peoples heads

Erm ... no that's bull****. The plague was spread through blood - bacteria (bubonic), so no swallowing puss or blood, and no getting bitten by fleas. It was also spread through airborne spores (pneumonic) from coughing.

"London Bridge is falling down..." refer to the acual beheading of people on london bridge and my fair lady was Elizabeth the first if i'm not mistaken, the the person might have been Mary of scots who was getting beheaded

it was a show on discovery about the means behind childrens songs, and my mum, almost every childs song has a meaning or other wise attacted to it, i just can't remember them all off the top of my head
