Buses in the big cities here do that.

Not always flawless...

They didn't call a single stop from Dublin to Belfast when I was taking the evening train up, and I had no idea where we were. Nearly shat myself, but some kids saw us looking concerned as hell and told us when our stop was.

What is pretty odd is the fact that although not every station on our line is announced by the driver, my village, Broadbottom, will always be announced. The train driver always will have a thick northern accent, which must be very strange for foreign visitors.

I presume that was an Enterprise train, they usually terminate at either Belfast or Dublin anyway so you couldn't really miss your stop. I've never been on one but I've heard all sorts of complaints about them.

I usually get the Intercity railcars whenever I want to go to Dublin and they have the scrolling LED thingys and robotic announcements for every stop.

I wish trains weren't such a goddamn novelty across the pond. :(

We were doing pretty good until 1910 or so when America collectively said, "nah, fuck that shit."

I wish trains would actually serve their purpose and make travelling faster. On some routes it's quicker to get a bus or even drive rather than getting a train. Also we're probably the only country in the world that would spent a ton of money upgrading a railway line and then closing it months later.

Here in Manchester we did that very thing with a tram network. And guess what? Now we are spending millions rebuilding it again.
