Default Musical instruments study

Hey guys,

I'm doin a study for a stat project where I check correlation between the dependent variable (number of hours a junior in my school spends per week playing a musical instrument) vs. other independent variables (i.e. do they play in a band or is there any parental pressure to play). I need background research on this topic but I don't think that any statistical experiments were done concerning how much time someone spends playing an instrument per week. Seein this is a music forum, I was wondering if any of you knew of any studies or have any links which could be helpful for me because I'm gettin zero.

Thanks alot.

I play viola 45 minutes a day for class + 45 minutes private lesson once a week + 1-2 hrs a week outside my class for a different college symphony orchestra + (random 20 minute practice sessions before all-state auditions, all-state itself, or other random quartet stuff I do)

And the reason its hard to find statistical information is because the amount of time playing usually varies immensely between the weeks.

Hope that was all the information you needed.

Thanks for your info, but I've already gotten all my data from other people. I'm talking about statistical studies performed in the past which are published.

this will sound really old fashion and lame, but check out an encyclopedia, they're surprisingly helpful with statistical information like that.

I mean to be rude, but it's called a book.
If you say "published" at all, then wouldn't it hint you're looking for information that's somehow been written down?
Idiot.

Hey, thanks alot for your help Trauma. I wonder why I didn't think of a book? Interestingly, I think google books would have provided me with a title of a book that perhaps covered my study. But it didn't, did it. But why so grouchy, haven't gotten laid in a while?

No, your mom didn't swallow.

In all seriousness, you can't rely on the internet for everything.
If you have access to a computer in the first place then the area you live in can't be that bad, thus providing you with a suitable library, filled with shelves upon shelves of sweet, sweet books.
There was a great book on exactly this topic, but sadly I forget the name, sorry.

Interestingly, my local library has been closed for renovation for the last 2 years. God knows what they're doing in there.

I just searched on Web Of Knowledge with the query:

"music and instument and hours"

And the 3rd result was.
