The Career Thread

I don't spend that much time in the Lounge but I thought I'd drop by and make this thread.

So this is the career thread. If you have a job, tell us what it is. If you're studying for a qualification, tell us as well. What do you want to do with your life? ... Sorry if this is a repost

Right now I'm doing a BE in software engineering with hopes of becoming a game programmer. I'm also learning various languages since I want to travel a lot in the future.

I tell a bunch of people on the flightline what to do. It's called ATOC or Air Terminal Operations Center. We pretty much run sh!t.

djchameleon 09-16-2007 01:53 AM

yay...*high fives for the people that run shilt I don't but ummm....I'm getting a BA in accounting and hopefully one day when I grow up I can be a production accountant for movies and you'll see my name in the credits if you sit there long enough to see it. I'll most likely get my CPA as well.

both cool things to do.

I also want to travel a lot - ideally on tour with a band, but however. I don't really know what I want to do though. I'm at college just now and I'm going to uni next year. I dunno though, sometimes I think I'd be happy just having a part-time job, sharing a flat in the city with some friends, and spending as much time as possible on making music, writing, and going out. Something that's entirely unfocused on a "job", and more focused on leisure and my relationships with other people. A job that pays well is obviously going to help get what I want, but the last thing I want to happen is become one of these guys that becomes consumed by their jobs and loses touch with what their life. I've seen it happen first hand.

but that's probably stupid youthful idealism

I think focusing on a career is not a bad thing, it just depends on your perspective. I'd like to write, in some capacity. Whether it's a newspaper, a novel, or a music mag. I'm probably going to take a joint course of philosophy and something writing-based.

Mouseketeer 09-16-2007 07:12 AM

I'm currently doing A levels in Biology, Chemistry, English Lit and Psychology. I'm not sure about my future right now, I'd like to go to university though and I hope those qualifications should open some doors.

jackhammer 09-16-2007 08:33 AM

I run a juice bar with lots of hot young women. I'm a chef by trade, but I hated the hours.

adidasss 09-16-2007 11:53 AM

I'm in law school...I don't have any ambitions. :\

Mouseketeer 09-16-2007 12:12 PM

This is unrelated, but who is that guy in your avatar adidasss? He's too familiar, yet I can't quite put my finger on him.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 09-16-2007 01:50 PM

^I believe its Cedric Bixler-Zavala from At the Drive-In/The Mars Volta.

adidasss 09-16-2007 02:13 PM

:D Long time, no see mate. Hope you're well.

Frances 09-16-2007 07:53 PM

I'm a Bartender and a Bookkeeper, just started at a new pub about a month ago and they've got me on about 45-55 hours a week, good money though, so I don't mind. The girlfriend doesn't like it too much though, at the moment she has to work on my 2 days off, but only for another couple of weeks.

I want to be a primary school teacher eventually. I just need to get the training...

littleknowitall 10-08-2007 08:38 AM

Right now I'm studying music technology, Philosophy and Photography at A level and gigging in the nights, there's a lot of bars locally so i was thinking of getting a bar job to get a bit more money in but it'd be difficult not having it clash with my gigs.

littleknowitall 10-08-2007 08:58 AM

ProggyMan 10-08-2007 10:00 PM

Lol.

Voice_of_the_Soul12,13,01 10-09-2007 09:04 AM

I'm currently in college getting an associates degree in music. If for some odd reason I decide to, and if I learn the art of crapping money, I'll transfer to a 4 year college.

I'm really doing this for my parents who won't get off my back about it. I'm not looking for a career. I intend to start a band or ensemble, of any form of music, and try to make it. If not, I'll have fun doing it; gigging at bars and stuff, doing various odd jobs to make money for rent.

Areknore 10-12-2007 06:32 AM

I'm in high school...

lmao.

littleliza 10-12-2007 10:12 AM
