Need new mp3 Player...?

Well i had to say goodbye today to my Cowon I-Audio X5. It was great for 3 years. Held 30 gigs played movies and battery life was about 12 hours. It finally went kaput and it was pretty sad for me.

I want to get a new one that has at least 20 gigs and isnt really expensive like the Zune type mp3 players. I dont need it to play movies or anything, or even radio for that matter, just able to store at least 20 gigs and color screen.

Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe a link or model number?

Depends on what you want from it, if you hate iTunes as much as I do and want it to function as an external HD, you should check out Zen's mp3 players they're generally cheaper than iPods and there's one to suit more or less every need. Otherwise... iPod.

Just curious, why do you hate Itunes? (iv never really used it, im a wmp guy)

cardboard adolescent 10-22-2007 11:44 PM

All I remember was I started using iTunes and all of a sudden half my songs were mistagged and all my folders had gotten ****ed up. Mostly I'm against iPods because I think they're monopolizing the market and making mp3 players more expensive than they need to be. Plus everyone else has one, which makes them automatically uncool.

ProggyMan 10-22-2007 11:47 PM

iTunes is good once you understand it. Sounds like you don't cardboard.

cardboard adolescent 10-23-2007 12:06 AM

You're right, iTunes is way too complicated for me; I just stared at it and screamed at it to play my music but it refused to obey.

Skid Mark 10-23-2007 01:41 AM

srsly, syncing is the stupidest idea ever. i've had to re-do my ipod like 3 times cause it keeps syncing to empty folders

Yeah I have a Zen player, they are pretty decent. I have a Zen V plus...only 4gb though but you could get a Zen W I think it is...those are the bigger 30gb and 60gb ones

i really hated it too, until i found out that there's a manual option.

And I really advise against an ipod, mainly because that's what scenesters use.

jackhammer 10-23-2007 07:58 PM

I refuse to have an IPOD..because it's the biggest selling MP3 player I should have one? Do you follow that edict with your musical tastes? no. buy the one that does it's job and is cheaper and does'nt have ****ty headphones. Sennheiser headphones every time baby.

cardboard adolescent 10-23-2007 08:07 PM

Grado pwns Sennheiser!

I don't know if they do earbuds though.

Well, look at what you posted.

Sparky 10-23-2007 08:23 PM

I reccomend an ipod, it will work after a little tinkering around with practically any music playing software.

Its also the simplest and coolest looking one out there >.>

That as soon as I added my media library it started retagging and reorganizing my music? I'm sure that I could have disabled that but the damage was done... **** it for being so "user-friendly" that it tries to take over my computer.

yeah, i found that too... but you can't add photos manually, you gotta sync and when you do it syncs EVERYTHING.. though i think that's been fixed in an update or something

That might be the stupid reason ever. Who gives a flying **** if its popular or the scensters use it. Its stil one of the best music players out there. So what if your giving money to apple, or everyone has it, or it rep is bad now....Seriously why would you give a **** about what people think of your mp3...its to play music and the ipod def does a damn good job at doing that.

If you think it is one of the best music players out there, why did you ask the question in the first place? itunes does **** up you're entire music organization system, putting it in folders that have make no sense, with the sole purpose being to make it ****ing hard to share your music. I regrettably fell into the itunes trap 4 years ago, and have been too lazy to try to get out of it.

While the old ipods had some advantages, not being a total waste of money. The new ipod touch is a complete waste of money, being 300 dollars for 8GB of space or 400 dollars for 16GB of space, which is just pathetic.

Just as side note, I would aim for more than 20 GB of space, you'll regret it in about 2 or 3 years when you have more than 20 GB of music, which is highly likely.

Mouseketeer 10-24-2007 09:26 AM

iPods are good players, probably the reason why people pick stupid holes in them becuase they can't find anything else wrong with them. I've had mine for just over two years and have experienced one problem with it, which isn't much considering. Although they do have problems, they're going to get most press becuase they're the market leaders. I'd go for an iPod for quality and ease of use, if you don't have a budget that is. I also don't get why people have problems with iTunes, it's so much easier than WMP and isn't so nasty.

Why does it need to have a colour screen? That bumps the price up significantly as you can get a good quality MP3 player for really cheap without the colour screen.

Personally, I want a pink Zune for Christmas. :)

I have about 45gb's now, i just dont feel like buring the cds onto my computer. My point was i dont really need more than 20-30 on there at one time.

Mookie Wilson 10-24-2007 11:13 AM

Grado>Bose>Sennheiser for headphones, as for mp3 players, i'd say get an ipod if you can FIND ONE FOR CHEAP. i'd never pay the retail price for an ipod cuz it's just outrageous, you can easily find a competitor to do the same **** as an ipod with significantly less frustrating software. apple is b.s. for customer care too, i worked at a best buy for a while and the consensus was don't even bother trying to get help from apple, whereas both sony and sandisk have been very cooperative with customer care issues in past. (in sandisk's case they actually sent a new mp3 player with no questions asked)

ipod touch also had an amazing web browser, ICHAT and a much larger screen. 300$ is a fair price

Apple - iPod touch

I'm sorry, at my school I was taught that when faced with the price of 299 you round up to 300 not down to 200

Sparky 10-24-2007 04:34 PM

hmm?

I don't believe you worked for best buy and would recommend someone buying that piece of crap ipod. they quality is sucks if you want to use it for watching videos.....I went to best buy and asked the guy there to turn on one and put it next to another player(it was a creative labs one) The other player had waaaaaaay better resolution on it. The only problem was that it was slightly more expensive at the time but I believe prices have gone down.

Dr_Rez 10-24-2007 10:31 PM

But i dont really care about video. And for music playing ipod is certanly not bad. I just dont know what other good competitors there are out there.

cardboard adolescent 10-24-2007 10:49 PM

i like my zen vision:m a lot, though it is a bit bulky.

Yea those are cool, just always seemed real big.

cardboard adolescent 10-24-2007 11:01 PM

I remember my 20 gig archos I had some five or six years ago was about four times the size of an iPod... I loved that thing.

ProggyMan 10-24-2007 11:45 PM

The new touch is ****ing sweet!

i believe the original post was asking about MP3 PLAYERS, not video players. of course i wouldn't recommend an ipod as a video player, that's just ridiculous. and anyone who cares about customer service would take what i said about apple and not even consider them. but if ur a rich kid and u don't care, then buy an ipod :P

good good, go on, buy buy buy, buy it all up, good for you man, you can BUY stuff. having a job doesn't just have to be about being able to BUY stuff, but if that's what you like to do, good on ya. keep shopping.

cardboard adolescent 10-25-2007 09:23 AM

Why the hell would you work if not to make money and use it?

Mookie Wilson 10-25-2007 09:27 AM

is that the only way you can think of to use money? to buy objects? and moreso, is that the only reason you can think of as to why someone would work? so they can get money to buy stuff?

have you ever thought that some people work because they enjoy what they do, or because there is a worthwhile cause associated with a job, not just a salary so you can buy crap?

cardboard adolescent 10-25-2007 09:36 AM

Objects and services.

And I would argue that most people would do something else (not necessarily nothing) besides their current job if it wasn't for money.

Mookie Wilson 10-25-2007 09:38 AM

ok fair enough, and i'm saying that unfortunately our society dictates that we should all work for the most money we can get in order to buy the most stuff we can.
