There's no law saying "absinthe is banned", there's a law saying "drink over x amount alcohol content are banned". Genuine absinthe falls into that category. Customs won't care if you bring back a bottle or two from holiday, but Londis won't have the real stuff sat behind the counter.

Yes, poisonous because of the wormwood, which causes hallucinations. But then alcohol is poisonous. That drunken feeling you get is the alcohol attacking your brain.

I've known a lot of people who have tried it, generally on trips to Europe, and they all have said while it is a unique brand of drunk, there were no full blown hallucinations.

Hallucination doesn't just mean seeing the little pixies etc etc. There are different strengths of hallucination, and some hallucinations are auditory or sensational rather than visual. All I know is that it causes hallucination, I don't know what type and I didn't claim it's to the same strength as say acid would achieve :P
