any advice or stories or comments?
Getting one on your ankle is going to be incredibly painful because it is just bone and skin, my advice is to eat a good sized meal before hand, drink lots of orange juice, and if you feel like you're going to pass out make sure to let the artist know.

Hydrocodone.
But NOT alcohol.

Edit:
Really, the pain isn't intolerable. Just sayin'... don't drink alcohol. You'll bleed worse.

My advice: make sure it's something you really actually want on your forever!

Oh and as for the pain. Tattoos aren't that painful. I've got one on my spine near my neck and it was a totally bearable pain. Kind-of even felt nice in a strange way. I know a few people with ankle ones too and they say the same.

a friend told me it's the kind of thing that only hurts if you think it's going to. none of hers hurt until she heard someone describe getting theres like being repeatedly slashed by hot knives, then whenever she got a new one she thought of that description and the pain shot up

yes, i'm sure i want one, what i want and where. in the process of making an album of all the tats i want where. work my way up to a full back one day, but that'll take planning

Well where were her first and where were her latter ones? It reputedly hurts more over skin and bone rather than an area with meat on it.

started at the shoulder and went down full sleeve

i always think tats on the top of the arm look a little too masculine. which is fine on a guy obviously, but i dunno if i'd get away with it

I can vouch for that.
Even in the seemingly least sensitive places, like the top of the forearm... It hurts far worse than even the inside of the more meatier areas.
Personally, anyway.
