Yes.

You have a very uncomfortable point.

You should be more careful where you sit.

You might give a **** in theory. On paper. But not in reality. Or at least not enough of a **** to sacrifice a luxury food item.

The anger Chula and TH are displaying at that is just the cognitive dissonance of thinking of yourself as an animal lover and then realizing you've sacrificed **** all to help any animals.

To be clear that describes me too. I kind of give a **** when I see Peta style videos on animal suffering but not enough to rearrange my diet. It doesn't mean you don't care at all just that you care more about sticking to the foods you're used to.

I don't see the distinction you are making between culturally reinforced values and morality.

Not anger as such, just a roll of the eyes. Batty's being general about things. We all have/had pets at one time or another. I think the amount of people who don't love animals and consider them inferior is far lower than the amount of meat eaters (that's such a horrible term isn't it? Flesh eater, much better). And having a pet can be a strain too. There's no doubt you get back the love, but I'll tell you one thing: looking after 5 cats and Karen while still holding down a job was tough. I needed my burger when I got home from the office!

'My diet includes animal protein' works in most circles.

I never said you don't love your pets lol. You care enough about animals to love your pets but just not enough to stop contributing to the industrialized slaughter of countless innocent animals that haven't earned the privilege of making your acquaintance. Agreed?

Trollheart 01-16-2023 05:11 AM

Agreed, with emphasis on the greed part. **** veg. I want my meat. Doesn't mean I don't feel bad when I eat meat (well actually it does; I don't, not usually - blind spot I guess. Maybe I've trained myself or been conditioned not to think about it. I - AM - A - RO-BOT!) but I would certainly advocate for better conditions for animals. I make little gestures. I buy free range eggs for instance. And now you're laughing.

But no matter what, that does not make me value animal life less than human. In a one-to-one, life-or-death struggle, yes, I'll take mine over that of a rapid gerbil or a dangerous spider, or even a psychotic slug. But killing an animal that's doing you no harm for no other reason than that it's there and you want to show what a big man/woman you are for being able to kill a defenceless animal? No.

I wonder, if stags and boars and so forth had built-in weapons, would people want to hunt them as much?

I love animals, but I love humans more.

And I love burgers more than animals as my actions have proven.

There's nothing quite as tasty as a human burger. Mmmmm!

I just don't think you've thought through your assurance on human vs animal life.

If you were forced to condemn either one innocent animal or one innocent human to death, you would have no preference as to which one dies?
