They give them a home and pay for all of their food, seriously what else do you want them to do?? They work so they can contribute to society and earn what they are receiving. I don't think it's a free ride and I don't think it's a bunch of lazy people either, but most of these people are happy just to have a shelter and food. The government does so much for these people and I don't understand why you have to make it into some sort of evil when without welfare most of these people would be dead or in prison.

The term welfare has a negative stigma attached to it, in my opinion largely because there are so many people abusing it. AKA the people who drive a Lex and roll up with food stamps. I can't remember the exact statistics, but in public polling when the question was asked "Do you support welfare," the support received was very low. And when the question asked was "Do you support government assistance to the poor" the support received was very high. And they are the SAME THING. Just something interesting I learned.

No, I think you are misunderstanding me. Re-read some of my posts up there. I said I'm in support of Transitional Jobs so that people can get OFF of welfare and the government can stop spending so much money on it. Welfare is supposed to be temporary/emergency. I know it's a good thing.

Good discussion going on in that mathematical thread. Closed by BD.

It was 13 pages of the same arguments being reiterated over and over again. Yes, it was good discussion at the beginning but it quickly spiraled into a pointless debate. Two possible solutions to the question were presented early on in the thread. I apologize if I upset you in some way by locking that thread.

Yeah, I don't know what Dirty's beef is but you did the right thing closing it. It started out great but after awhile it was like beating a dead horse.

Exactly. I even told EvilChuck that I was going to close it because his question was answered, and he was fine with it.

Yeah. You can go to the grocery store here and see tons of people on it buying their milk and formula on one order, then having a second order filled with beer and filet mignon. Its nice to see that tax dollars help the less fortunate live like kings.

It's ridiculous how people abuse the system so much.

When I go to the market I eat nearly a full meal while shopping. Its the least the market can do for me since I spend tons of money there every single week. Although at my new place the candy is first which sometimes ruins my appetite by the time I hit the donuts and muffins on the other end.

You're a thief? I just lost an awful lot of respect for you, Rezz.

no, everything in the store becomes free samples.

I had a friend of the family that would shop that way.

By the end of her shopping trip, she would have made a sandwich while shopping by just opening products along the way.

Sometimes she would pay for the opened things and others times she wouldn't.
