My way of looking at it is that worrying about heaven and hell is a complete and utter waste of your life, and you should be more concerned about the way YOU want to spend your life, not about how a book describes the rules and guidelines of living a virtuous life.

Point taken, but you still didnt really answer my question, Athiest also believe that their is NO heaven or hell. so the thing you said about them not wanting to waste their time thinking about it is absolutly bulls s hit. They believe their is none, so they dont think about it. What are you basing your right and wrongs off? your morals? is it off the jewdaichristian beliefs? the ten commandments?
If you believe totally that we are all meat and flesh, just a result from a chemical embalance in the universe, why cant you kill someone else? we're all meaningless, totally usless? so why not?

^ wow, care to twist my words a bit more? I just can't believe that you think all morals have to be tied to religious documents. My morals come from my own experiences in life, my own discoveries, my own thoughts, and my own sense of compassion, sympathy and empathy. Just because I don't believe in heaven and hell doesn't mean I don't value human life. If you can't understand that, then I'm not going to waste my time explaining it any more.

i just dont understand why does human life matter, if we are all worhless? arnt your thoughts usless? your compassion, sypathy and empathy all meaningless. why doesit all matter?

jibber 11-28-2004 11:00 PM

^ where the hell did I say that life was meaningless, or that we are all worthless? I said I don't believe that there is a heaven and hell, my own beliefs are more in tune to the theory of reincarnation. our lives matter because for some reason or another, we are living here for the time being, so why live by someone else's standards when you can live the way you want to, and make your life mean something in a way that is meaningful by your own standards. Its very obvious that one person can make a huge difference in the world, and that everyone can make small differences. Yet again, you fail to grasp any concept of worth or meaning not tied into religion, which, to be blunt, is pretty sad.

ok, the question i was originially asking was directed at Athiests who do not have spriritual beliefs, i should've made that a bit more clear, for the less fortunate ie: for people who cant read.

I think that not knowing what happens when you die makes it better because it is then unknown. If you know what is going to happen then you can be scared of it more because it is certain to happen, if you are not sure then whatever you believe can be right , do you see what I mean? Anyhow, the blonde doesnt make much sense so I'll stop talking now....lol, any more opinions?

you make one assumption here- not having religious beleifs makes life worthless. how exactly? what makes you believe that life's purpose is solely to worship a god?

I don't really have spiritual beliefs. I don't believe in god, and my beliefs about what happens after we die are more to do with science than anything spiritual. I'm just pointing out that you should expand your ways of thinking if you associate worth and meaning with religious beliefs, which is how you're posts are coming off at the moment. If that is in fact the case, I have to say that that's an incredibly closed minded and ignorant way of thinking.
