Yes indeed I am a massive Westwood fan. Just had to call one of my babies after her!

Woah that is old for a hamster. Sorry to hear about that.

Don't be sorry that was a long time ago, I used to be a huge Westwood fan, like I had so many Seditionaries reprints it was crazy.

Predator 04-13-2008 03:48 PM

I used to keep a crap load of rats. I had almost every variety and did quite a bit of breeding. They could honestly be the best pets. I just ran low on time and couldn't keep them anymore.

savannah 04-13-2008 03:50 PM

what do you do with them?
i mean,....can rats show affection?

Lizzie 04-13-2008 03:51 PM

Rats are amazing

I have two gerbils and they are seriously the greatest things ever
I lovez them so much

Although I really don't like hamsters and guinea pigs. They bite

simplephysics 04-13-2008 03:51 PM

they can bite the **** out of you.

so can a dog

simplephysics 04-13-2008 03:52 PM

tell that to my fingers

Predator 04-13-2008 03:52 PM

Rats are very affectionate. You can teach them tricks and in some cases they can wander free without getting into trouble. I had one when I was about 15 that lived in my coat. She would sleep on my shoulder and went everywhere with me. She didn't even have a cage.

Oh my god YES.

My 2 are like little dogs. They come when I call them. They know their names and can do tricks. Earlier tonight Vivienne was sitting on my shoulder 'grooming' me, gently pulling my hair and very gently nibbling my face which is the way rats show affection to one another. They sit on my knee and love cuddles. They are free range rats, they are only in their cage at night and when I am not in. Scientists believe that rats have the same intelligence as dogs, they are absolutely hilarious, they can fetch a ball, my little Alice is so cheeky she steals everything she can carry to make a nest out off. Endlessly entertaining and so very affectionate. They make a clicking noise that is the same as when a cat purrs, they love being stroked, I could go on!

honestly one of the best animals in the world.

predator, that is such a shame. Did you have any hairless rats? I love those!

I would love more rats, I want one like this!

My 2 are just so insanely active, they love running around so I wouldn't trust them outside!

But I recently bought them a lead hopefully i can train them on it so I can bring them into the garden.

More rat stories please!

savannah 04-13-2008 03:56 PM

can you potty train them?

Vivienne and some Vivienne Westwood perfume!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3053/...e8b354.jpg?v=0

Alice and some Alice in Wonderland books

savannah 04-13-2008 04:02 PM

vi,....i've never, ever, thought of rats as cute,....
however yours really are,.....a rat with manners,...who would have thought,....

so how do you potty train them?
and a lead? you can buy rat leads?

maybe i should get a rat, that would trip everyone out

Predator 04-13-2008 04:03 PM

The one that lived in my coat only pooped in one pocket.

Hairless were my specialty. I provided most of clark county with hairless rats. I also had rex, double rex, dwarf, various hooded patterns..... the list goes on. Once you figure out the genetics you can make what you want. I tried and tried but the one that I couldn't make was a dwarf hairless.

I honestly did not have anything to do with their potty training, they are such clean animals (although a common misconception with rats is that they are dirty) that all I had to do is put some litter in their cage where they first went to the toilet when I got them, and ever since that is where they go.

Haha yes leads! Like a mini harness!

Oh you most definitely should, they are amazing animals. but be sure to learn all about them first! I was obsessed for years before finally getting mine.

Predator that is hilarious, poop pocket litter tray. What a little darling!

Rex rats are little beauties, although my favourites are Dumbos because that's what my little angels are

I hate it that lots of people are getting rats just because of that Disney film ratatouille or whatever it is called, and then dumping them like a week later.

a girl i know told me that a family friend of hers was moving house and decided to leave her 4 rats behind because she 'couldn't be bothered with them' if I ever meet her I will probably kill her? I offered to take them but thankfully they were rescued.

savannah 04-13-2008 04:17 PM

i think my cat would try and eat them

Predator 04-13-2008 04:19 PM

I'm trying to come up with some of my pictures from my breeding days. This is the only one I have left in photobucket for now.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...pLightning.jpg

She had a broken hood with a lightning bolt shape. Loved the camera. She was a dwarf dumbo with a broken hood.

my cat never messed with my hamster, they just sniffed eachother.

simplephysics 04-13-2008 04:22 PM

i had a gerbil and my cat would sleep on top of it's cage. Waiting.

bruise_violet 04-13-2008 04:22 PM

predator she is an absolute beauty!

I have never seen a dwarf rat before, how small are we talking? My Alice is pretty tiny, she was the runt of the litter but she has such a big personality. Her and Vivienne are sisters.

We have a cat too, well my housemate does but she is one hell of a nasty cat. She isn't allowed in my room, for her own safety, one day she did manage to get in but my babies were thankfully in their cage, and she jumped on the cage (it is a massive cage) and they both bit her.

savannah 04-13-2008 04:25 PM

the rats bit the cat?

I've never been bitten by a rat either. They've always been the sweetest things

And Predator, you have the most adorable rat I've ever seen!

Vivienne crawled up my leg earlier she was so desperate for a cuddle.

When i walk about my room she always puts her front paws on my leg, she always wants to be picked up.

Lizzie 04-13-2008 04:49 PM

Awwwwwwww, I WANT A RAT SO BAD RIGHT NOW

bruise_violet 04-13-2008 05:06 PM

DO IT!

First thing I did when i moved out, I bought a massive rat cage and 2 little babies.

The cage was about £100 but if I had more space I would buy a bigger one. They deserve a palace, this one is just a mansion. But they are hardly in their cage so I think they are happy enough.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 04-13-2008 05:07 PM

disgusting animals that should be destroyed
