first edition Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone. need help

I have a first edition Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, that I bought years and years ago. My parents said I could sell it and have 25% of the money earned. I know it's worth a fair amount because there are only 500 copies in print (actually 499, my family had two, but I spilt coke on it and we had to throw it away).

Anyhow I was wondering if anyone knew where a good place to sell it would be and get as much as possible? I don't think craigslist or ebay is right for this.

Hmmm interesting situation. My mate's parents collect first edition / signed books so I'll ask him what he thinks about it.

Talking about HP, I remember trying to find Harrius Potter et Philosophi Lapis (Latin version of HP1) in high school because I thought it'd be an interesting read. I completely forgot about it until I saw it the other day in a uni bookshop... if it didn't cost so much, I would have bought it.

here's what a quick ebay search pulled up. Looks like they'd be worth just over $100 US. So...I'd say wait until you can get some good money out of it, especially if you're only getting 25%. In my mind it's not at all worth your trouble.

hey, an easy 25$, not too shabby :)

it's first edition, first print

jibber 10-20-2008 08:52 PM

one of the ones in the link i posted was 2nd print. the "buy it now" price was 200US. so lets add another 50, since the 2nd print was asking for 50 more than the 3rd print, and we'll say it's $250 - $275. so you would take about $60-$70. Unless you're incredibly strapped for cash right now, whats the harm in waiting a bit?
