BitTorrent

I have no idea how to use it.

Okay, I GET THAT I DOWNLOAD ALBUMS.

I just don't know how.

Help?

FaSho 11-21-2008 09:28 AM

Okay here's the deal.
After you've downloaded bittorrent, go to a website like isohunt or btjunkie and type in the search bar the artisyou want to download. Then it will list all the torrents that they have for that artist. Find the one you want and click "Download". Then in the window that pops up click "open". Then bittorrent will come up with a window with all the files in the torrent you downloaded isted. Uncheck the files you don't want to download then click okay. Then just wait for the download to finish.

Arya Stark 11-21-2008 09:40 AM

Okay, that sounds pretty simple. When I went onto isohunt last night, I couldn't find anything that said download. I was looking for something like that.

I'll look again tonight when I come home.

adidasss 11-21-2008 11:25 AM

piratebay is better...

Akira 11-21-2008 11:35 AM

actually searching just one site is rubbish. Do a torrent search, which is much better, and very rarely returns piratebay as the highest seeder.

Isohunt compiles torrents from all sites. It's thepiratebay + about thirty others, minus the spam and spyware.

adidasss 11-21-2008 01:07 PM

I was talking out of my ass, I haven't used isohunt for a few years now. It used to be filled with shit and advertisements. Unlike thepiratebay...

Anyhoo, private trackers>>>public ones...:j

Arya Stark 11-21-2008 03:52 PM

Oh gawd.

Oh so guess what, guys.

Astronomer 11-21-2008 04:39 PM

Is there a program like BitTorrent that works on Macs? 'Coz I downloaded it but it didn't work on my Mac OSX... :(

adidasss 11-21-2008 05:03 PM

You should probably google these things. The internet is an amazing wealth of information you know...;)

Astronomer 11-21-2008 05:06 PM

Ha I know right, I just thought I'd ask while a thread was up, 'cause I've been having trouble with this for months.

Urban Hat€monger ? 11-21-2008 05:39 PM

Have never used one torrent since I got a Rapidshare account.

Opening torrents in limewire seems to work pretty well on my macbook

Alfred 11-21-2008 10:44 PM

Google Blogsearch is all I'll ever need.

I've got a macbook, too.
I didn't know Limewire could open torrents? Can Frostwire, too?

FireInCairo 11-21-2008 11:11 PM

Never used it so I dont know
yeah, you go to 'file' and click open torrent
I only found it after getting a mac necessitated a change from bittorrent

Farfisa 11-22-2008 05:34 AM

Limewire = bad for computers.

jackhammer 11-22-2008 06:16 AM

I have'nt done any torrents for a long while now. I don't have the patience to download them. I would much rather get the file in zip/rar. You just have to know how to search for things ;)

Piss Me Off 11-22-2008 08:59 AM

I only really use torrents for films or shows, and thats not often really. Blogsearch really is your friend.

Arya Stark 11-22-2008 09:39 AM

Okay so I finally downloaded an album.

Now it won't play.

What the hell?

>.<

Akira 11-22-2008 09:40 AM

what file format is it and what are you trying to play it on?

Arya Stark 11-22-2008 09:41 AM

When I open it, it asks what I used to download it.

So I choose BitTorrent.

And then it says it's unable to play.

Akira 11-22-2008 09:43 AM

once you have downloaded the file you play it in any media player, not in bittorrent. bittorrent si what you use to download it (uTorrent is better)

Arya Stark 11-22-2008 09:44 AM

uTorrent? There's more to download? My dad's going to kill me.

Akira 11-22-2008 09:50 AM

Back to basics:

Download a client which will download all the files you need. Bittorrent, BitComet, uTorrent etc, any of those of the other hundreds out there.

Go to a site such as this Torrent Search - ScrapeTorrent.com where you can do a search for what you are after. You need to be looking for files that have a higher number of seeders, and ideally not as many leachers.

Click on the link to whichever one you choose.

This will open up the web page of the site that hosts the link. here you can check that the album/song is going to be in mp3 or FLAC etc or if it is a rar. file.

Click on 'download torrent' or the title of the album/song whatever, which will download a link.

You then open this downloaded link with your bittorrent client and it starts downloading.

Once the file is downloaded you can then open up the file with the media player of your choice, unless you downloaded a rar. file, in which case you'll need to unzip it first

Arya Stark 11-22-2008 09:58 AM

Okay. Let me try this.

It plays one album I downloaded.

It just seems to hate Nine Inch Nails.

Akira 11-22-2008 09:59 AM

But what kind of file is the album and what are you trying to play it in?

Arya Stark 11-22-2008 10:04 AM

It was Flac.

And I was trying to play it on iTunes.

But I deleted it and downloaded a different file type. Same album.

Akira 11-22-2008 10:05 AM

I doubt iTunes supports FLAC.

You'd have to download a different version or use something else to convert it.

Arya Stark 11-22-2008 10:10 AM

I got it working. [=

I still don't know what file I downloaded but it works. =P

Thank youu. ^_^

Arya Stark 11-22-2008 10:10 AM

Now does anyone know how to transfer my LimeWire music so that I can delete LimeWire but still keep all of my songs?

Akira 11-22-2008 10:11 AM

Cant you just move all the songs from the folder into another one?

Arya Stark 11-22-2008 10:14 AM

It's not in a LimeWire Folder.

It's in a selfmade folder.

So do you think it would work?

>.<

FaSho 11-22-2008 10:17 AM

Yes.
I have all my music in a "Music" folder, so I can transfer it to different programs.

Good luck with that

Arya Stark 11-22-2008 10:23 AM

o.O What do you mean?

Urban Hat€monger ? 11-22-2008 10:27 AM

Even after you uninstall it it'll still be around on your computer.

Limewire is a real bastard to get rid of.

Arya Stark 11-22-2008 10:31 AM

=P I'm well aware. Heh.

I don't know where else I have to go to delete all of its little offspring.

I just deleted the main component.

But I know there's a lot left.

My mac doesn't open any .rar files nor half of zip files :(
That's it, I'm getting a new computer.
