What is the best thing that happened to you in 2008?

The best thing that happened to me was getting custody of my 15 year old daughter...What about you?

That is something worth celebrating for sure. I met some cool new people but 2008 has'nt been great to me both personally and professionally. 2009 better make up for it dammit.

2008 was my graduating year as well as the first 7 months or so of freedom without school. So, just being able to experience all things Ive never been able to. The work life, woohoo hah.

dac 12-24-2008 01:07 PM

I haven't failed a class.

Predator 12-24-2008 03:09 PM

This post pretty much covers it.

I got bumped 2 pay levels and made journeyman technician. I started out after I graduated school 2 years ago as a grade 4, now I am grade 9. The general policy is no more than 1 grade per year making 5 years that it should take to get to where I am now. My last boss was bumping me one grade per review (every 6 months). This time I got bumped to the top and am now a senior technician, at least 3 years ahead of my peers. I was hired into a journeyman position 18 months ago but didn't get the pay till now. I am so damn happy about this.

Well, I met lots of cool people, found lots of sweet music (thanks to MB), and it snowed this month. Not too exciting this year...but not bad.

2008 has been a kind year to me. It's had it's ups and downs, but I'm not complaining. A holiday abroad and I've still got my job.

Our childminders husband was rushed to hospital a few weeks ago.
He spent 5 hours on the assessment ward before being seen.
When they finally attended to him, they rushed him into intensive care. His face went purple, his ear went black and he had two coronaries.
After which, his hands and feet went black and he died the next day. He left a wife and two small children aged 8 and 3. He was only 41 and fit as a fiddle.
A very sad end to the year which put everything into perspective and got me counting my blessings.

Finding a girl who's a trained chef , kinky as hell and who thinks the sun shines out of my arse.

Awful taste in music but i'm beyond caring about that.

Formed a band, played a show.

Got a taste in music.

Had some good times.

I dunno.

Turning 18.

Wooooooooooooooooooo.

Fruitonica 12-25-2008 01:00 AM

Finished school, and came away with some pretty good marks despite doing very little study.
Of course, now I have a year and a half to earn 18 grand before going to uni, which puts a damper on my year off.

sleepy jack 12-25-2008 04:02 AM

I guess I had an okay year. I think I've met someone who's going to be my best friend through college. I switched to a completely vegan, not just vegetarian, diet which has been good for my moods. This year was kind of...boring for me. I read a few good books but I did last year and I've managed to maintain a 3.8 GPA but that's nothing new. If next year the Democrats deliver universal health care (or at least give it back to minors since Bush for some reason decided to take away that), get out of us Iraq (and hopefully all the middle east) and fix this financial mess I'll probably be happier the year happened.

That's quite the wish list you've got there...

While they're definitely all possible, they could all very well take more than a year to do.

Also to add to my best things to happen in 2008: LeBron saying he may resign with the cavs this summer :tramp::tramp::tramp:

Hmm....been a funny old year for me. A lot of people I knew passed away. I nearly joined them.
I bought a housebus, finished my restoration, bercame branch manager of where i work and found myself a new lady.

The pluses far outweigh the negatives for a change

What do you do about showering and such?

Voice_of_the_Soul12,13,01 12-26-2008 01:07 AM

I guess turning 21 was my greatest moment of 2008, but even that wasn't so great;

Got some Jack Daniels, and Jagermeister. Since I've never drank anything harder than smirnoff ice, I just started with a Jack & Coke. I wanted to get ****ed up, and I got impatient, so this dude got us some skunk weed and I smoked some of that. Bad idea. I've never felt like throwing up the last few times I've tried weed, but after a while, my stomach started really hurting.

Didn't throw up, though. Didn't pass out either, though, but I spent the rest of the night on the bathroom floor, still aware that stuff was going on but not exactly conscious enough to engage in any of it.

Next morning, I woke up, and was dying for a smoke (Tobacco, not weed), until I realized someone stole my cigarettes and my cash (Only 20, but still). It ended up being the one guy who got us the weed.

So yeah. Next year, a friend of mine'll be turning 21, so I redo my celebration then.

Probably graduating was what 2008 was all about.
Didn't find love.
Didn't do anything worth-while.
Oh, I started going to the army, but apart from that? Nothing really.

Strange year this 2008 thing... basically it changed a pattern for me that I'd been in since moving to the States from Australia three years ago. My wife was the main income earner, and I helped out with the kids etc to save on day care, etc... I also worked in a grocery store.

Well this year I was lucky enough to resume working in the education industry (where i was working prior to moving here) and my wife stopped working altogether, so the roles were kinda reversed... except I started working my old job and my new one simultaneously...

So its been exhausting, rewarding, complex and somewhat interesting, but altogether, I have acheived alot this year... a really conflicted year with alot of great stuff and difficult stuff all rolled into one...

Astronomer 12-29-2008 05:06 AM

In 2008 I...
Graduated from my Bachelor of Arts
Got a tattoo
Crashed my car (again)
Adopted a puppy
Ran out of money
Started a band!

Piss Me Off 12-29-2008 06:41 AM

Uni has and will probably remain brilliant. I'm a much better person for it.
