On Music Banter, it really pisses me off when people...

-Respond to topics by saying things like "All mainstream rock" or "All that emo crap"

-People bend the rules of a thread. If the topic is "Your Favorite Song of All Time" then post one damn song. I don't want your top 5.

Add some of your own, I'm going to bed.

Comus 02-06-2009 12:14 AM

But all that emo crap is crap :(

I hate it when people assume that I can't generalise to make a point.

...get all butthurt over someone else mildly dissing a band they like. (Although it's pretty funny to see these same people turn around and diss bands that other people like.)

Guybrush 02-06-2009 02:05 AM

... post not-so-witty one word posts ...

... and when they don't post release year with their reviews.

The latter mostly because I've been collecting links for reviews and more than 50% of the time, I have to look up the year myself. It makes it take a lot longer. Plus, shouldn't including it be common sense?

jackhammer 02-06-2009 06:47 AM

Double post.
Bump a 3 year old thread with an inane comment and are then never to be heard of again.
Post in the songwriting forum and usually only there and constantly expect everyone to fawn over their writing.

TheBig3 02-06-2009 07:35 AM

Sticking to the talking points that literally everyone else has said prior. Its like a race to use the word "sellout."

This is exacerbated when its used in a thread that has the exact same language used in the prior three pages.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-06-2009 08:24 AM

People who's entire post is a picture of an album that doesn't have the name of the band or the name of the album on the artwork.

When you post a detailed & thoughtful response to a thread only to come back the next day & find that your post has been totally ignored and a 3 page off topic discussion has broken out over some useless throwaway comment written by some noob.

This is perhaps the number one reason as to why I seldom partake in discussions on forums. Annoying indeed.

Some more :

- People who use unsourced claims in serious discussions. Not all claims should be sourced, but if they are at all outlandish, then yes please.

- People who post youtube videos without adding any kind of description so that if the link doesn't work or dies, you don't know what the hell they were posting.

^This.

Also, one-word replies, spammers, those psychotic noobs we seem to get on a fortnightly basis, etc

Nail on the head. Its always some base knowledge people are refuting on opinion too. 9 times out of ten its bumper sticker platitudes that are countered by other bumper sticker garbage.

Alfred 02-06-2009 02:10 PM

...use the word "twat".

anticipation 02-06-2009 02:19 PM

when people complain about the lack of new music contributions and the unwillingness of the majority of posters to try music, and then completely ignore any attempt to introduce new music.

basically, when someone makes a thread and no one posts in it just because they know they won't be able to name-drop the band to make themselves look cool, or they think that the band is beneath them.

I got you on this one. Happens far too much on here.

Akira 02-06-2009 02:25 PM

When people post an introduction and say:

a) 'i love every type of music'. No, you probably couldn't name every type of music let alone form an opinion. Much better to say some cliche line like 'i'm open and willing to try allsorts of music'.

b)say the above and then go on to list a handful of current chart acts, and because one is emo and one is indie they say 'see, pretty diverse'.

Alfred 02-06-2009 02:27 PM

Yeah, I find that.

jackhammer 02-06-2009 02:33 PM

It does crack me up when noobs say they have diverse tastes. Have a look at my collection then lol Although that is elitist- fuck it!

Heh. That's happened to a couple of my threads. For some reason I find the hip-hop forum to be the worst as far as that goes.

This one annoys me but more so in real life where it seems the pre-requisite for listening to 'all types of music' is listening to a Kings of Leon song, a Beyonce song and some Britney Spears and Kanye West.

It actually makes me feel sick when most people purport to listen to all types of music

Heh. Yeah, I run into that a lot. And then of course there's the related "I like everything... as long as it has a beat that I can dance to". I hate that one. It like saying "I like everything... except for about 99% of all music ever made."

Terrible Lizard 02-06-2009 03:37 PM

It pisses me off that some people thought Anteater and I were the same person. :bringit:

Ugh that's another terrible one. Those are the people for whom music will never be anything more than a social accompaniment.

But the resemblance is striking! :D

Roemilca 02-06-2009 03:53 PM

"Oh, Music Banter, it really pisses me off when people..."
...post duplicate threads. ;) Catch my drift?

lucifer_sam 02-06-2009 04:14 PM

Doesn't necessarily piss me off, but...

I'd like to see more reviews of albums that most people haven't heard yet. OK Computer reviews tend to get slightly derivative after the 167th person's put their two cents in.

But it DOES piss me off that people still respond to these reviews in significant volume and ignore everything that's more obscure than Abbey Fucking Road.

Akira 02-06-2009 04:16 PM

The fact that crap such as Katy Perry actually get above 100 posts.

cardboard adolescent 02-06-2009 04:18 PM

make threads like these, or when other people respond to them even when they find them inane

I have posted about 20 different thigs in the "deepest musical secret" thread...

Guilty. Read my introduction thread. I wasn't the smartest when I joined.

Guybrush 02-06-2009 06:07 PM

Don't be too elitist, though. It's not like every newcomer to the boards are newcomers to music. ;)

I think cynicism is overrated here - just like everywhere else on the internet.

Bulldog 02-16-2009 11:18 AM

I don't exactly lose sleep over it, but when people use this smiley;

:band:

I mean, it's not like it adds anything to a post. It's just completely pointless and annoying.

Yeah, MB has quite a few pointless smilies (the baseball, basketball and soccer ball all come to mind) and yet there's no puking smiley which I'd think would be much more useful, especially if, say, Limp Bizkit come up in conversation.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-16-2009 11:22 AM

I asked for new smileys 3 years ago :(
