Musicbanter cliques?

I was just think how there's a whole bunch of new members whom I know nothing about yet are pretty frequent posters. I'm not sure how it goes or went with the rest of you, but when I first joined yonks ago I practically raped everyone I found interesting through PMs (and eventually badgered them to give me their msn, d'ya remember that David? ). For some reason I stopped doing that around '07 so in the past 2 years or so the only person I got to know a little better is Jackhammer (and I think he initiated the contact). So most of the people I pay close attention to joined before that, like Right-track, Urban, Ethan, Thebig3, Rainard etc...

Any people with similar experiences? Do other people badger someone through PMs? What's it like with new people? And does someone's post count/join date make you pay more attention to their posts? Are these things even related? Do I know what this thread is even about? http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...wer/neznam.gif

All I know is I am a part of the greaser clique that hangs out behind the auto shop.

And look at me now.

I entertained the whole MSN thing for what must have been about 6 months.
I only chatted with a handful of people.
Yourself Marijan, ethan and TDoc for a while. Jackhammer briefly and the odd member who happened to be in the room at the time.
Every time my PC crashed I wouldn't bother re-installing MSN and since this latest pc I haven't bothered once.

I joined this forum after seeing a thread about the Kinks made by Stu...that was 4 years ago! Jesus H Christ!!!

Thats better than the stoners who burned out because of lack of willpower.

I'm too paranoid about bothering people, therefore I don't ever PM anyone unless they PM me first. But I do enjoy the occasional MSN chat with different peeps.

As far as post count/join date, it personally doesn't affect how much I pay attention to any person's post. I usually skim all the posts and if something catches my eye I'll stop to check it out more fully.

Flashback: I remember clashing horns with the Big3 over his opinion of Josh Stone.
I thought she was a poser who wouldn't reach her potential.
I was right. :D

I also imagined him to be an IRA sympathiser for a while too.

Farfisa 03-09-2009 01:43 PM

Dreadnaught, Ethan, Sweet and I used to be pretty good e-pals. I'm on pretty good terms with everyone on musicbanter so...

I think it might be an MB right of initiation to have at least one clash with Big3 :D

I think you might be right. And then you realize he's pretty funny and he's just being a wiseass most of the time. Either that or you run off crying and slamming doors. :D

this goes for me basically. Have a few peeps on MSN but i'm not on there much, sorry
MSN is in my profile though so if you feel like playing with fire then by all means...
As for cliques I just assumed some people are here to feed the beast of music addiction, some for socializing and posting their dissertation drafts, others a bit of both!

It's more of a byob kinda place, so I think you are out of luck.

adidasss 03-09-2009 02:25 PM

So I'm the only one who uses this place to fill the gaping hole in his social life? I feel so sad now....anybody wanna chat about it? http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...bigsadeyes.gif

Im with you there. I got so fed up with the people around me in late 2007 so I started just going out much less and staying inside playing guitar/bass and whatnot. In result I joined Music Banter and it has done a better job to "fill the gaping hole :D" than most people I seem to know. So no need to worry adidasss.

TheBig3 03-09-2009 02:29 PM

If clashing with me is a piece of the initiation then The old croat should be the stone cutter elder....

http://www.musicbanter.com/lounge/20...croatster.html

IRA supporter? where'd that come from? You know, Spike thought I was a no-necked muscle-head jock. I don't know where you folks get these ideas but I'm viciously misjudged.

As for cliques the problem is a lot less prevelent these days.

dac 03-09-2009 02:29 PM

I use this place to keep my social life in tact. If I tried to recommend an Olivia Tremor Control album to an actual friend of mine or discuss the possibility of Zeppelin being overrated I'd get laughed out of the door.

the only person i've ever talked to outside of mb is bardonodude, and i've been here for almost four years.

You made a passing reference to the 'Troubles' once or twice.
Ireland + Boston = Plastic Paddy whip round for guns and bombs.
Don't worry it only fleetingly passed through my mind.

As for being viciously misjudged. I realised what you were about a long time before most here.
In my mind your intelligence has never been in doubt. Your sanity on the other hand...

sleepy jack 03-09-2009 02:36 PM

What's funny about Big3 is he actually loves a good penis joke, hates Tom Waits and Jack White and actually spend most of his times listening to Dave Matthews and playing American Football.

right-track 03-09-2009 02:36 PM

Plus he's a racist.

Please clarify your Limeyspeak. Speaking of which, i watched Russel Brand this weekend and couldn't make half the **** out.

And my sanity (or lack thereof) is an effort to make this place fun.

My first memories of this place was a guy named Misfitspunk getting his ass banned off, when all the old guys would use AIM and hop into a chat room talking about nothing worthwhile. I do however miss hookerswithmachineguns and pastorofmuppets

Maybe, but your ancestor's dumped right-track's ancestor's tea into the Boston Harbor. I think the only way they would've found that acceptable is if you'd taken the time to pre-boil the ocean and added a bit of sugar to it.

Is that a quote from something? It sounds really familiar.

Maybe....but the DMB comment crossed a line and you know it. You're a statesman, you know how awful they are.

What they did to that tea was a crime against civilisation and humanity.

You know all too often, when we sent the red coats packing, everyone remembers the tea. But what most forget its the brilliance in execution. By dressing like indians, we really upped the anti on the pox covered blankets. And thusly perpetuated our own racism on through the decades.

You have to wonder though, if we'd worn redcoats instead of painting our faces and whatnot would the British be pathetic alcoholics clinging to a past glory? Oh wait...
