i agree with the pulse in your body. even when times are tough i put on music for the mood and realize that no matter what i am still alive and i keep on living.

I've found the best way to be immersed in whatever music I'm listening to is to play it with headphones on while I'm alone and can shut my eyes and just get lost in it. But it is good to have something high impact playing while I'm walking, working out, etc. If I'm at work I usually have something ambient or instrumental playing in the back ground, because it is hard to concentrate on what I'm doing when my brain keeps drifting to the lyrics or beat of whatever is playing. And forget about reading or holding a decent conversation when there is music playing...my feeble brain can't handle that.

If it's new music then sure. It does need a degree of concentration for which I find surfing the web perfect as I listen to a lot of music with my headphones on. When I read I rarely listen to music and if it is then it's calm and non instrusive.

I think the headphone listen is one of the best as you are fully immersed in the music.

Walking to campus is my favourite time for music. Nothing else bothering you and it makes the time fly by on cold mornings too.

When I do any kind of math homework where it doesn't require a lot of reading I really like fast stuff, punk, hardcore, and the like. When I have to do any type of in depth reading it has to be classical. I can't concentrate on my internal dialogue when someone is singing in my ears heh. I listen to most of my music while working in lab, walking around campus, and driving. I try not to listen to music while I bike though, I'm afraid I won't hear a car and get hit lol.

Yeah, I listen to my iPod on the walk home. It's a good, quiet time to do it.

Default My Endless Struggle

I love listening to music. But sometimes I feel really useless and inefficient if I JUST listen to music. So I try to multi-task. I read. Or do homework. Or something else that needs doing. But then...I don't pay attention to the music as well! I will go through a song or two without even paying attention to it. Or I will read some Brothers Karamazov and definitely NOT get the meaning behind it because I was too busy concentrating on my music.

The only time I can find a balance between listening and doing is when I'm driving alone, or cleaning my room. I don't have enough long drives to myself though.

Do you guys face this problem? What do you do while you're listening to music? Do you multi-task? Just lie on the couch and let the music envelop you? Any solutions or suggestions?

well, there is a time to listen and a time to hear. you should be the judge of the time.
