Secondly, many of you have asked what exactly a moderator does. Essentially a moderator is the enforcer of the standards that they impose on musicbanter (through the forum rules as well as that long waver you click 'Agreed' to when you joined but never actually read.) Outlined in there are rules against spamming (which a moderator would have to delete) and how to conduct yourself on the forum (failure to do so results in a ban.)

There's more specifics things a moderator does, such as a merging duplicate threads and duplicate posts and acting as the referee in arguments. It's a lot of bitch work I won't lie.

There is no pay before you ask either!

Everyone applying will be considered.
This includes newbs, veterans and ex-mods, alike.

Post the names of the prospective candidates so we (and by we I mean I) can judge them. http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...ower/judge.gif

Sorry, this is a mods only/elitist thing.

You can always apply.

Sneer 03-31-2009 03:51 PM

Just make sure its somebody who is active on the music forums, strangely, considering the supposed nature of the site, there arent enough who actively participate in musical discussion.

Exactly why we're doing it this way Stu.

Sneer 03-31-2009 03:53 PM

Good stuff

right-track 03-31-2009 03:57 PM

We want active (members) mods who can take their share of the work and spread the load to free up time for others.

good luck to all applicants! looking forward to seeing who the next moderator will be

Freebase Dali 03-31-2009 04:13 PM

Hah Noooooo thanks. I've modded at a forum that gets less traffic than this place and, no offense, you guys can keep it.
I'm happy helping out without the mod tools.

Good luck to the applicants.

Um... thanks for the update on the PC thingy? I saw it just now, for future reference I usually just see the posts when I get around to going back. No, I don't really think I'm qualified at all to be a moderator, and even if I was, I'm really busy lately.

Schoolwork I should be doing right now but am pissing off to be on Musicbanter. I'm in this program here where you do school at your own pace by doing these packets, and they each take like a couple days. I set a goal that I would be done with high school by April 10th, but have been slacking. I spend like 5-6 hours at Barns&Nobles for a couple days and overwork, get ahead, then crash and get behind- then I feel like I have a lot of work to do again. I'Ve tried to be less polar but I'm not good at it.

^So, in answer to your question, refer to the block of too much personal information above.

LoathsomePete 03-31-2009 11:24 PM

I'm curious if being a mod on a forum counts as some kind of volunteering.

henry 03-31-2009 11:38 PM

It wouldn't hurt to put it on your CV.

Moderator for a Popular Online Community Discussion Board.

Im in something like that. Doing all my general credits online. I assume you got a book and have to take quizzes from it every few days? I also found that do it yourself classes seem to be more work.

I don't know about more work. See, if you do 4-5 hours a day on a packet you'll finish about half of one, do that five times a week- and if you started freshman year the same days as someone in high school, you'd be done half as fast. But the thing is that it's four to five hours of sitting down and working, not like goofing off in a classroom.

I actually have never done well in school at all, my biggest problem was sitting down and doing homework. I had such bad grades, in fact, the school system during 7th and 8th grade actually put me in easy bad-kid classes, and then in full on special-ed "emotionally disturbed classes". Took me almost a year to fight argue my way out of those, which gave me a disrespect for the money-driven school system and some aspects of society. Actually, used to be such a shock to my ego I would have slit throats to keep it a secret, but whatever. I don't give a fukk anymore. Getting to the point, after Rehab I went into this stuff instead of normal school because (aside from thinking the school system is ridiculously amoral and ineffective) it was all homework, which I seriously needed to learn how to do.

Most likely I just feel overworked because doing schoolwork and self-discipline in general is new to me, but also it does seem more condensed then a classroom. Also why I have a hard time not being so polar, probably remnants of an my old habits of perfectionism.

I dunno man. Just think about that on a resume. What are they gonna think? I mean, unless you're going into a computer job, what are they gonna think?

Probably that you have never seen daylight, let alone see your way to work every morning.
