I played it when it first came out in the U.S., so I only had the earlier cards. I only played it from 5th-6th grade, and I was somewhat decent I think. I think I only played until the third series of cards came out (when the toon monster things first came out).

My friend has all three, I don't know how much he spent though. God Cards are just for show and for unofficial gameplay.

Jinzo is rare and is a cool card, I wish I had one. The best card in the game to me is Great Maju Jin or whatever his name is. You take two monsters and sacrifice them for his attack and defense. This means if you sacrificed to Blue Eyes, he'd have 6000 ATK and 5000 DEF. He's hard as hell. I think my deck was a dragon based one, because I have a Buster Blader, and I revolved my deck around him a lot.

haha.

i can't believe someone started a thread on this, i used to play like four years ago. i got to nationals in '05, quit when i realized the game was becoming more about who's got the most pocket money.

definitely had a fair share of fun at the time though. i can remember a SJC Columbus trip with my friends that turned into an extended vacation.

I went down to Columbus for a tourney in 04 or 05 I can't remember. The game was mostly about who could keep up with the standards of the beat down decks. Three or four cards would vary here and there, but in the competitive groups, everyone was playing the same stuff for the most part. Don Zaloog and Cannon Soldier were underrated as shit.

no way dude, don zaloog went for like $25 where i was from. but yeah, with little exception everybody used the same deck...partly why i quit.

what was underrated were beastdown decks (giant rat, nimble momonga, berserk gorilla, etc). i qualified with one at regionals when every other idiot was using chaos, and i SHOULD have taken it to nats. it was way better than what everyone else was using.

Heh, it was me and my neighbor that were big into it for me. I used the standard new-age beatdown but he used a legendary fisherman deck and won a few tournies with it. It worked surprisingly well, and he had a lot of fun with it.

I remember I assembled the most wonderful deck at one point. It was fun then I grew out of it and sold all my good cards to my friend. Same thing happened with Warhammer 40k. I wish I could find my old Yu-Gi-Oh game for gameboy advanced. I remember you could put in the card codes on the game so my deck was pretty well the same as in real life.
