I know rape isn't funny, but while we're on the subject why shouldn't rape jokes be funny?

I have a genuine question, not even trying to be antagonistic or offend anybody so apologies in advance... for the people who say rape jokes aren't funny, how do you feel it differs from jokes about cancer/death or other sensitive subjects and would you have a different opinion if somebody like Frankie Boyle was to joke about it?

Like I say a genuine question.

Exactly, it's still wrong to joke about because it effects both women and men. I think it's the worst thing you could do to someone aside from murder, it violates a person in every way and scars them for life. The rapist either doesn't get reported/caught or gets a couple of years in jail (sometimes only home detention or a slap on the wrist) and then they are back in society to potentially do it again.

As I indicated to Manky, context is everything. It's possible to make humor out of the darkest of subjects, but what's gone on in this thread ain't that.

I don't find cancer at all funny. My dear Granddad died from 3 tumors in his brain and my nan lost her breasts at 21 to breast cancer.

Rape jokes can be funny just like any other aspect of life if presented the right way. Real rape isn't funny. An instance of what sounded like real rape is what triggered this whole discussion.

OK I understand that.

If you just don't personally find it funny then I understand that, I'm just trying to ask if people think because they don't find it funny for whatever reason, they would have a problem with someone telling a joke about a particular subject, again not trying to offend anyone.

I'm honestly failing to see where manky went wrong. All he did was simply point out that the guys mate is/was a creepy bastard. I don't think rape is funny but you're acting as if it is pure blasphemy that he merely said "he sounds like he's on the verge of rape. Is that normal behaviour for him?" Im pretty sure he didnt say "HAHA he sounds like hes raping her lol lmao" People have different humour and I'd go as far to say you're all that butthurt you've made a regular member feel unwelcome. Build a bridge and get over it. He's never going to think he's in the wrong because he isn't.

Actually, the bolded is almost exactly what he said. He went wrong in joking about a real situation which he himself acknowledged sounded like rape. And then, to make matters worse, instead of apologizing or saying he phrased his comment poorly, he responded by telling everybody that rape is funny because this is the internet. Why would anybody want to build a bridge to that?

The only use for a  is to express amusement. Amusement at a story about a guy angrily trying to force a girl supposedly too drunk to walk properly to have sex with him. I think it's pretty clear.

Hmm I can't find a real "rape" in this story.
First of all I want to tell you that you absolutely don't know anything about Bulgaria. Bulgaria is a country where the horny chicks come to party, where everything is very cheap. When the girls are drunk most of the times they want to have sex. So tell me if there are 3 drunk girls with you and you are in a room with them What is the chance to do something together?
Secondly I think you misunderstood the boy. Sooner ot later you will see that the girl doesn't have reactions and you will stop doing anything. I know what kind of country is Bulgaria and what is the possibility the story to be true.
Rape is disgusting but I think the whole story is written to be funny. Black homour is always funny, but this doesn't get even closer to black homour.
